Default So i just got my clutched replaced and...

Now my car is dead!

A little back story, clutch started slipping recently so it was time i bought a new clutch before anything worse happened. So i decided finally on the JWT clutch and lightwieght flywheel kit from Concept Z Designs (ad from this forum), i had it installed on Wednesday.

Ever since then its been acting a little strange, a grinding noise while in 3-4th gears while driving and also having it almost die a few times while reversing or trying to start out, so i'd have to keep reving it while letting out the clutch. i just thought it was growing pains as it was brand new and ive heard they need a break in time (500-1000 Miles).

But today i was getting on the freeway not even fast at all and the car locks up and dies, i could barely get the thing to the side of the road. At first it wouldn't turn back on like the battery had died or something, but i noticed as i let it sit for a little longer the more it would engage the starter, so eventually i got it turned over and barely back on, i rev'd the engine a little and the rpm's danced around like i was watching some musical or something, it was pretty shocking and the entire car shook as well.

Do any of you have any idea what this could be specifically? I clearly know this has something to do with the clutch but what could it be. and yes i've already tried googling the problem and they dont have a real specific answer as to what it could be.

Thank you guys for your input and time.

I suspect your flywheel was not installed correctly.

It should work correctly from the first mile. Sounds indeed like the flywheel or something wasn't installed right.

Bad news - the install was somehow messed up

1. Flywheel wasn't aligned properly - (most probable)

2. Pressure plate was not install correctly.

Go back to the shop and demand them to drop the transmission (stay there and watch), make them fix it.

could be slave and also master cylinder. If it is not turning back on and op had grinding it could be slave has gone bad. I have jwt clutch flywheel combo and I could feel the slave going after about 10k miles and got them both changed at 15k after clutch flywheel install. I would upgrade to the z1 slave and master cylinders.

They clearly screwed something up, but there may also be a loose connection on your starter or battery.

It turned back over after a rest period of like maybe 5-6 mins. I don't believe it to be these as the issue as there was never really an issue with the pedal or shifting itself, it was the sound of the gears and the shuddering of the car that was the main worry, obviously besides the dead car lol.

With that grinding noise, would it have been possible to damage the flywheel/clutch because of a wrong install?

FWIW I've seen a friend install the actual clutch disc and pressure plate incorrectly and his transmission wouldn't engage in any gear while the car was running.one we dropped the tans the clutch disc was in pieces .

The car ran perfectly fine before getting the new clutch installed (minus the slipping of the old clutch) so i doubt that in two days my transmission would just completely crap out without warning.

If my transmission is shot now, that shop is going to have a whole 'nother issue on their hands.

So it ended up being when they installed the intake they knocked the throttle body connector loose and it was basically a time bomb waiting to just fall out and disable the car. Car is back in working order and alive.

Thank you all for your help.
