Mine's still doing fine, but I was wondering how much longer it will be reliable. I've been careful to keep it filled using only distilled water, and I always put the hood up when I park it in the garage to keep it from getting hot, so maybe that's helped extend its life a bit.

 

I still have the original in my '06, and its going strong.

I replaced mine last year also...

Although just now starting to put miles on her, she did originally set inside the garage most of the time which I'm sure helps extend any/most of the parts on a car.

Between the plastic CSC, the window motors, and the hatch latch replacing the battery was the least of my worries, although as of this writing all of the above is still original on my car...just sayin..

 

Geez you guys maintain your battery well. Mine kicked the bucket last winter and I bought the optima red top after 1 year of ownership. I still have the original in my garage.

 

Still on the original factory battery. 31k miles on car now.

Was thinking of replacing it before it stranded me somewhere, but at this point I have a morbid curiosity to see how long it will last.

Already about 7 years since my car rolled off the assembly line.

Could it make it to TEN????

 

I just replaced the stock 06 last week with a Bosch Platinum AGM.
Not really impressed with the new Optima Red Tops, the one in my daily driver has crapped out after only a year, and Optima wont replace it.
The last one I had went for almost 10 years, but this new one just sux.

 

Mine was replaced in 2010 with oem

 

My 06 was replaced early this year @ 86000km. Changed with evermaxx battery, rated pretty high on consumer report. No issues!

 

Batteries are strange things. I've seen several go for years, and give plenty of warning that they're about to give it up. Some went for years and then died without any warning at all. And a few died suddenly long before their time.

 

I replaced mine last year and I have an 07. Probably time to change it if you haven't. I think car batteries last about 6-7 years.

 

Replaced mine about 3 years ago. I am sure has alot to do with the winters.

 

Its generally considered that the life of a battery is five years but there are so many variables to that. Its going to wear out quicker if it goes through cold winters and on short journeys which doesn't give it a chance to recharge. Using the heating, rear screen & door mirror heaters etc also helps to put wear into it. Generally the hotter the climate, chances are the longer your battery will last as the A/C will only be the main drain.

 

I made sure I put mine in the basement for winter. What I noticed before my battery died is that that car would take a second or two to start. With my new one it fire up immediately without hesitation.

 

Hey Jah, what probably happened when your old battery was taking a couple of seconds to fire up your car was that a couple of the cells were toast, reducing output. Have you considered getting a trickle charger to keep your battery in tip top shape when its down in your basement this winter?

 

I rarely drove my car in winter when I got it and last winter I never drove it at all in winter and just took the battery out and the tires off. I did buy one now after the fact.

 

I use a float charger for all my car batteries, especially during winter hibernation. I hook up a float charger to the daily drivers, which include the Z, once in a while especially when I can predict if they won't be started and driven for more than a couple days. Yes, I know such frequency is not needed, but it doesn't hurt.

My Z still has its original battery. I bought the car used a year and a half ago and its battery still cranks out just fine and I'm expecting that it will never need replacement under my ownership, save for mechanical damage and multiple deep discharging.

 

I still have the oem battery in my 06 with 53k. Might be time to replace it this fall though.
