I own a 05 35th 6MT HR engine.

My question is when I shift from 1st to 2nd, the shifter doesnt feel.. smooth? Like when I try to shift the shifter from 1st to 2nd theres a slight resistance feel. But then it goes away for awhile and then comes back at another time. This DOES NOT only imply for 1st to 2nd, although majority of the other gears feel smooth for the shifter to move into.

When I'm parked or at a red light I mess around with the shifter (of course holding down the clutch) and go through the gears to double check myself that I am not imagining this weird feel.

It does sometimes do it for other gears, shouldn't it feel SMOOTH to shift the shifter to another gear? After messing around and going through all the gears at a stop light all the gears become smooth to shift into. I'm very confused.

Don't know much about cars, still learning so I have no idea what it could be even if it happens to be normal.

 

If your gear oil has never been replaced, it's time to do so. I've used Redline Manual Transmission Oil in all my vehicles and it has helped resolved any notchy feeling that I've had with the transmission.

you may also have an issue with the clutch not fully disengaging while the clutch pedal is depressed. If you feel that your clutch is working correctly I would start with the Transmission Oil Change.

Might want to learn how to nurse the bad Nissan transmission synchros, sometimes it can take a little feeling for the transmission to get the car smoothly into any gear. Sometimes the RPM can work with you

 

Change your Transmission fluid and use GM Synchromesh. I experienced some notchy shifts from 1st to 2nd and sometimes 3rd, but after changing to GM Synchromesh the notchy feel is gone for the most part. I've tried Nissan fluid, Motul Gear 300, and finally GM Synchromesh. I've been so pleased with GM Synchromesh compared to the other fluids, doesn't require as much of a "warm-up" compared to the other fluids I've tried.

 

Just changed the Transmission Fluid and the Differential Fluid to Redline to your suggestion. 1st to 2nd is still there unfortunately. I read upon the forums and it seems like its just the old transmission synchros that are doing it. CD009 is a far stretch for me. $2k just to get rid of that notchy feeling eh.

Redline has helped tho, the feelling comes and goes so it was way better than it was before.

AND FOR SOME REASON THE CLUTCH ENGAGES SO MUCH SMOOTHER NOW. THANK YOU. didnt know the transmission fluid could make a difference in that.

 

Is it "notchiness" or grinding? Our transmissions are all a little notchy (especially 1-2).

 

LOL I don't what the hell "notchiness" means. Looked it up and pretty hard to define it myself....

It just feels as if theres a wall when I transfer the shifter to 1st to 2nd. I hear NO grinding noise unless if its very faint when I'm driving.

A wall as in I have to slightly push against this invisible "wall" to get into 2nd gear. Not everytime though. Odd

Is the car new to you? These cars have notchy transmissions. I put in Redline and it helped alot, but at the end of the day these cars have notchy and noisy transmissions. As long as you are not grinding I wouldn't worry. Mine is always notchy when I first start driving, it gets better as it warms up.

 

I've had the car since May of this year and I changed the trans + diff to Redline. The "feeling" is still there.

A better explanation I assume is whenever I change from 1st to 2nd gear it makes a "CLUNK" noise. Not loud but noticable (when the car is cold?). Even with the redline change the feelings comes back sometime. Like what you said but regardless of hot or cold the engine is..

Definitely better after warming up. A quick entry on freeway on ramps always works!
I don't know which redline oil you used. I used to have MT-90 (no MT-85 back then) and OEM oil turns out to be better, especially when cold.
