Default 2 different types of Nissan OEM MTF?

I been buying OEM MTF (manualy tranny fluid) for a long time now from my local dealer, it was always cheap. I think I got 3 quarts for under 25 bucks with my wholesale discount. I went in today for more, I saw the bottle was different and said Multi HQ on it and when he rang me up it came to like $55!!! WTF? I asked him is this the only MTF you have, he looked at me like I had 2 heads, and said yes we never had anything different, i said yes you did, look up my past orders, and he said he could not (moron). But anyway, the ones I always got never said Multi HQ on them and they were much cheaper. I always thought Nissan only make 1 type of MTF. Which was this and what happened to the cheaper one I always got?

Actually, they are 2 different part numbers, the old one I use to buy 75w-85 retails at $12.49 ea. and the part number is 999mp-mtf00p. The one they tried selling me this time was also 75w-85 but the part number was 999mp-mtf00np and retailed for 19.70 ea. What is the difference between both these fluids???

I believe one is GL-4 and one is GL-5. You cannot use the GL-5 in your Z, it will damage the synchros. I know from first hand experience. Had the local dealership change my fluid and they used the GL-5. Synchros were shot after about 100 miles. They replaced the tranny under warranty.

If you are set on getting the OEM fluid, make sure you get the GL-4. If you are willing to get another fluid, I highly recommend Redline MT-85. Made specifically for the Z/G platform and is so much smoother than with the OEM fluid.

Thanks, but that's the thing, it said it was also GL-4 if I recall. I just with I knew the difference, even the bottle was a bit different.

Hmmm, I may consider the Redline now. I was always set on the OEM. because I am grinding in 5th gear, and am scared anything else will make it worse. But I suppose the redline can't be to bad.
