Alright, Im putting cams in my Z but I have an extra set of heads separate from the ones in the car that have been ported/polished. My Question is, would it be possible to pull the heads with the block in the car? Hos anybody done this? and if they have did you just unbolt the headers at the header to cat/tp flange or did you have to unbolt them from the head? Would it be possible to remove the heads with the headers and maneuver it all out? thanks In advance

 

I have done it. I just unbolted header from the head and let it lean over to the side.

 

well damn unbolting the headers is sucha pita, but it looks like doing the headgasket in the car will be pretty straightforward.

Kyle - if/when you replace your headgaskets, give your new gaskets a few light coatings of that copper spray on both sides before you bolt everything back together. Not sure if this is standard knowledge or not...

always, that copper spray saves lives. That stuff is the bomb, for exhaust gaskets too.

 

I sprayed every MLS gasket I had...for the record I went with the HR gaskets

 

Cool. I have the old school copper spray gasket stuff and assume it's the same as what you posted. I'll be using it on my gaakets. Have Cosworth hg's. Thanks

 

damn that is a lot of copper. the permatex stuff i use comes out about 1/2 as coppery as that stuff.

 

I hung them and sprayed them and let them dry ... I wanna say I sprayed them 4 times...

 

Just curious, is there any evidence of the spray working as claimed?

 

The copper spray works good but a properly installed and torqued head gasket will seal anyway. The main use of the copper is to seal up small imperfections primarily on exhaust gaskets, on a head gasket if there are small imperfections it will fail, every time. The sealing surface needs to be perfect, there's just too much pressure and load.
