I was surfing a dealers site and noticed they had a breakdown for parts of the radiator . For example you can buy the upper and lower tanks separately. Correct me if I am wrong but I assumed the tanks were not just something you could take apart from the core? Would anyone spread some light on this.

Your link really didn't work, so I couldn't examine the parts schematic. However, go to any Nissan dealer and you'll find they sell radiators as a whole and replace them that way also.

 

so you can literally order just the tanks itself?
