Default Airbag light on (diagnosed)

my airbag light came on (blinking). I put it in diagnostic mode and light flashed long blink blink long. according to the SRS FSM it's a malfunctioning driver airbag module circuit. I have a spare airbag and tried to put it on.. reset it.. and still have the same code... next step says check/replace clock spring. in my research when the clock spring fails, usually the horn, cruise and radio controls don't work. in my case, my horn works fine... don't have cruise nor radio controls as mine is a base. is there any way to check for a faulty clock spring? just didn't want to spend the $$$ and find out it's not the culprit...
