vibration at 80 mph, comes and goes
#22
well after as much self diagnosis as i can do.
It will be going to the shop on monday to figure this out.
my money is either on a sticking caliper/some other brake problem or a blow strut...possibly bushing / motor mount.
I'm almost rooting for a blown strut, it would give me an excuse to get coils.

oh there u r mate. didnt know when u d be back. speaking of stuck caliper, if that was the issue then vibration wont be ur biggest enemy but the major symptom would be ur car going off to one side like a bad alignment. another cause i was thinking could be improperly balanced all the wheels( thats rare), or maybe the wheel weights came off. right now i'm thinking anyting that can cause vibration in general.

Dropping the car off at the shop tomorrow.
One thing I've requested was to look at the brakes.
such an odd issue.
I also paid to get the wheels re balanced to definitely rule that out. I have a sneaking suspension when they did they knocked one of my hub rings out...going to be pissed if they did.
Oh the joys of living in an apartment complex with very few tools.

I took it to a nissan / Z shop and they said they could feel it but couldn't pinpoint what was happening. (i've now had the wheels and tired balanced twice in under two weeks)
I don't think they did an extensive look around. They recommended that I get an on car balancing from some truck place that charges something like $200.
I did leave out that my front tires are at a very slight stretch. but never seemed to be an issue before.
It blows when you think you are making upgraded changes (wheel and brakes) and it causes slight issues.

man, honestly im a bit sad that dealership didnt pin point it, we all can keep suggestiing guesses on what it might be, but sucks if u cant check every of those guesses.
do u have a hubcentric ring, or do ur wheels dont need it?

Yeah i love that new stuff smell haha
I do have hub centric rings.
It wasnt a dealer but a nissan specialist.
Living in nashville there is a nissan plant and their corporate HQ is here so there are plenty of guys with nissan experience.
The shop I took it to drove it and rebalanced the tires and I dont think really checked anything else out. They charged me for an hr and a half of labor though. I won't be going back for anything.
The guy I got the tires off said its possible in this 90+ degree heat that because my car is sitting a week at a time i could've developed flat spots.
He works at the nissan plant and mounts tires. He said that sometimes tires need to be rotated on the wheel to get them in spec for nissan so that could be my problem.
If new rubber doesnt fix the problem (and to be honest im not optimistic) then im going to have to take a long hard...

Look into the front inner and outer tie rods. Ball joints as well! If it was a balance issue it would shake through the steering wheel not as what you described!
