Bent valves?
So as i was approaching a red light my car turn off out of no where? At first i thought it was gas because it cranked and was trying to turn on so i repeatedly tried turning it on but didnt work until i pulled over to the side and gave it another shot and it bearly turned on, so then i thought maybe my clutch gave out because i heard a nasty slapping noise, i drove it home like that not trying to go fast, i kept it 35 and under to not mess anything up , the next day i took it to a shop to get it checked out driving it aswell carefully and the outcome was a broken tensioner , the upper left cam one , and the left cam chain was the one making the slapping noise because it was loose. Any chances the valves could have bent? The timing was off a tooth aswell so im going to have to set the timing. I drive a 03 enthusiast if that helps.
Yes, the 350Z has an interference engine. You may have bent valves. You or your mechanic can check for bent valves without removing the heads by doing a comparative leak-down test (it isn't that hard to do).
Here's a how-to guide link that shows you how to test for bent valves.
