Default Help with stupid RevUp motor!!

Alright guys so I got my 2006 350z 6MT 4 months ago, and about one month ago, i started to hear a bad knocking from the bell housing area, did a little research and figured out that these engines consume oil like crazy and that it was low on oil. Which was correct, so i got an oil change and that fixed.
Well now its back, my car lost 3qts of oil in one month. ONE MONTH. So i went and got an oil change and its still there. So i left it at the dealer and told them to hold off while i do research. Do you guys think i spun a bearing because it ran dry, or is there something else i can do to fix this problem? Its a repetitive knock coming from right in between the engine and tranny. Thank you guys!

A noisy bell housing is fairly normal for the 350Z 6MTs. It's just how the clutch/tranny are on these cars. While idling, leave the car in neutral and push in the clutch all the way. If the noise you're hearing quiets down a lot or disappears all-together, then It's safe to say it's just the clutch/throw-out bearing making the noise.

Now if you're consuming a massive amount of oil in such a short period of time, that is something completely different. The engine will most likely need to be replaced. I have a RevUp and I burn about 3/4qt every 1500mi which is a good amount, but easily manageable. If you're losing 3qts in one month....and the engine shows no signs of leakage anywhere, you will need a rebuild or a new shortblock.

Sounds like the dealer sold you a lemon, I hope they help you out, but legally I don't think they are obligated if it's been more than 30 days.
Good Luck!

Seems like I'm giving the same advice all the time: get a leakdown and compression check to determine the overall health of your VQ. Without tearing the engine down, a UOA might be another way of getting an idea of what's going on inside.

Yeah ill do that for sure, but that doesn't go about solving the knock no matter the results

You are allowed and able to add oil between changes, very important to do on a car that burns oil. Got a knock, the damage is done. Time to tear it down and fix it or swap in another motor

yeah i understand i can add oil, I was watching the oil pressure every day and everything seemed fine until the one day i started it up, oh well my fault. I guess the only thing left to do is to throw money at it

Quantity and pressure are different, but you need quantity to have pressure. At rpm , it only takes a few seconds of dropped pressure to damage a bearing. The dipstick is much better than the pressure gauge.

Since you had a major consumption issue, a rebuild will be a good thing
