Default "Tick" noise behind tach/speedo-any fix ever found?

I know this has been talked about...it's the noise from behind (or within) the cluster.

But I never read any way to fix it. Anyone found a way to get rid of it? And what exactly is causing the noise? Sounds like something's loose in there.

not sure if you're having the same problem as i am, but i get a rattle-like sound coming from the dash panel directly in front of the speedo-cluster thingee...

brought it to the dealer (a better one than i used to bring it to) and they told me if i was willing to leave the car for the day, they would figure it out and fix it... somehow....

i have brought it to my old dealer twice to get this resolved to no avail.. so we'll see how the new dealership does;

at least they were willing to attempt to get it right....

Carefully check the vinyl shift cover. I was looking for the tick in my dash for weeks only to discover that the vinyl has a tick to it when it rubs against itself.

i'm certain mine comes from the dash - when i press down on the part of the dash where i suspect the sound comes from, it stops... soooo... we'll see what the dealer can do.

(at least the tech. heard the sound also when we took it for a drive)

This thread is really old and you're probably not a member anymore but did you ever find the problem? did your tick change with the RPM's? I have a tach tick that changes with the RPM's.

Simple fix...open the windows and step on the gas. J/K
I had the same ticking. I banged on the dash corner where it meets the pillar and my annoying sound came from under there. I think there was a wire or something there hitting the plastic.
Other annoying noises in my car:
Door air vents creaking
Navi sliding door creaking
Noise from Rear-View mirror wire cover when bass is turned up
Loud creaking suspension joints or bushings in the rear
Clicking tranny when coming to stop
Passenger window rattling when 1/4 way down
Creaking noise from shifting panel when turning sharply
Most recent...exhaust muffler (OEM) rattle when revving lightly

They were all getting on my nerves. I started to feel that the car is not as solid as I hoped. Well it's stolen now, so it doesn't matter any longer.

Well, I just noticed it the other day and I haven't had a chance to figure out where it's coming from. Fortunatley, I was able to recreate it easily when the vehicle was stopped at a light. The frequency seems to increase with RPM, but I really can't hear it over the engine screaming beyond 5k RPM.

I might have some free time to check it out this weekend.

Well, this is a little belated, but I checked out my car and can not find the source of the ticking. I actually got on my head down by the gas pedal and the found about where the sound is coming from. It seems to be coming from waaaay behind the stereo. More info coming in the future.

My car ticks in the dash behind the speedo as well. It stops when I push down on the dash, so it must be the dash rattling against something below.

I have a ticking noise from my gauge cluster also. It's more of buzzing noise though and it's the loudest when I'm turning the steering wheel.
