Default top issue on 350Z, 2004 Touring Roadster

Thank you for your website. I have similar problem with my top, I just change the control module (diagnostic from a dealer), now it don't work, plus now the back panel is lock and it doesn't unlock anymore. Do you have any tips to unlock this back panel? I will change and clean the 5th bow motor, it'll help.

Welcome, and sorry to hear about the problems with your ZR top. Unfortunately, no one can accurately diagnose those problems from behind a keyboard. It sounds as though you've already taken your car to a Nissan dealer for a diagnostic, but tried to do the repair yourself. The ZR top is an extremely complex piece with lots of moving parts that must coordinate with each other. You need a trained Z33 tech to help you, as one failure can actually mask another. If it were my ZR, I'd bite the bullet and get the repair done by the dealer before you do any more harm. You might also try Z Therapy, as they were a Z car specialist in Portland, if you'd rather have an independent garage do the work.

Thank you very much for your answer and advise. I think about that right now, because I changed the control module by myself (I bought use one and it was suppose to work) and now the back panel is totally lock. The problem with the dealers here, they all told me, they are not familiar with the problem. I'm surprise because it's look like, it's a issue with all the tops on 2004. I know the mechanism and electrical is very complex with the top, but at the base, it's step by step. I'm trying to find the way to unlock the back panel, to reach again the control module.

Dealers may not see this problem all the time, but if they have a technician who has gone to training on the Z33, they should be able to make progress on it. Interview the service manager and ask about specific experience of his/her techs on ZRs. If you have to DIY, all I can say is good luck...
