Misfiring/Rough Idle after Repairs.
Hello,
Thursday night i was driving home from work and on acceleration I was experiencing sputtering getting up to speed (Service Engine Light was on prior to this and stayed on for P0300, P0442, P0456, P0442). So i decided to do all the work i was going to do next week this past weekend.
I did the following:
-Knock Sensor and Sub Harness (OEM Nissan)
-Valve Covers and Valve Cover Gaskets (OEM Nissan)
-NGK Plat Plugs PLFR5A-11 (OEM Plugs)
-Intake Manifold and Plenum Gaskets
-Fram Air Filter
After getting everything done yesterday I started the car up and ran fine while engine was cold. Good Idle, during test drive 5 minutes in I started to experience what I was Thursday night with hesitation on acceleration and rough idle and the Service Engine Light came on flashing. Went back home and inspected everything. All wires from harness were connected correctly, all vacuum lines were connected firmly, everything was torqued down to spec.
My only concern is I did not do coil packs, and I cleaned out cylinder 2, 5, 6 and when i pulled the plugs out they had some oil in them. (I cleaned them out when i put on new valve covers). So I inspected the valve cover gasket was set properly and it was. And I tested all coil pack with a multi meter at 200K Ohms and received Prong 1 and 2 = 1.6-1.8, Prongs 2 and 3 and 1 and 3 were 112.6-117.6. So since all tested with out a dead zone all coil packs i believe are good. I pulled apart coil pack for cylinder 6 that appeared had the most oil to inspect the boot and I couldn't pinpoint a answer for that, and now I do not know how to put it back together. I also cleaned the gaskets fully hoping that may help, I sheared the upper intake manifold bolt off so im waiting for that to come in to run further tests.
Any suggestions on what my problem may be? Car is a 2003 Nissan 350z Touring with 141k miles.
Thank you.

Hi Cameron,
Most of the posts I read around knock sensor recommend changing the sensor + cable; and it seems you did the job. No chance you flipped some of the cylinder harnesses, right?
Then again, as you mention, the coil packs might be the issue. I also heard about bad plugs, even if new.

Al

coil pack on cylinder #4 and #6 ... check / double check that you hooked these back up properly. Furthermore, get a label maker and label all those wires by cylinder number.
