Default Idk

So today i just got a shift **** and boot in the mail and wanted to put it on, so my current shift know was stuck ‘took it off already.’ I torched the underneath where the shifter and the **** connect then it got loose so i started twisting, mind you i had everything removed the rubber underneath the white mesh type **** so i could see from the inside to the floor on the outside. As i was twisting i saw that the whole shifter itself started to twist iself to the loose position. I grabbed a pair of vicegrips retighented the whole shifter “i think” and then proceeded to unscrew ****. Now say if the whole shifter itself was a bit loose then it should have been what would be the outcome? After i was done i turned the car on put it in gear and jt was fine till i went to stop, went into first then slowed down to a stop, then reverse then slowed to a stop, both times there was some sort of vibration ir something. But after that it was fine? for the rest of the drive im confused. I also had vdc off.

Putting the gears into first or reverse while you are still moving is not good practice. I am not surprised you felt some unusual vibration.

To change the shift ****, you need to pop the boot-piece (just pull up on the rim), and then use a Vice-Grip to hold the shifter-shaft while you unscrew the old **** and screw on the new ****. Place a fabric piece over the shifter's shaft before gripping with the Vice-Grip so as not to mar the shaft.

Sounds like you are talking about "control lever assembly," and I could be wrong but the bottom is not a thread into anything, if you got some rotation when trying to remove the shifter then there's a good chance you've bent/twisted something. Either way, I'd look into taking it apart and checking everything out.

If you can't do a simple install like this you may want to sell your car.
