yes, the HS is the word this is why nissan has approved a new engine. I did do the swithch to full syn after the first 3 to 4k. the syn oil is not the cause due to the fact that I had the problem before the switch. So, to all please get to know your dip stick and check your oil between changes. also, from my experience I had the oil light go on at least 6 times and I have been told that the oil light only goes on when you are at more than 3.5 guarts low.

Let us know what the autopsy finds.... Sound like broken ring lands on the pistons... For so much oil to go in 3750 miles..

Cheers Amy -

Probably the valve didn't seat properly due to synthetic oil.

Had the issue of oil consumption before the switch to synthetic oil.

There are three that I know of with this problem. The fix is a new engine. Assuming you're in Arcadia, CA, I would recommend that you consult with Torrance Nissan even if you're already approved since they have previously done two engine replacements on Zs and have experience.

ronald_m: Valves that don't seat correctly will cause loss of compression... However, leaking or worn valve guides/seals will cause you to burn oil... synthetic oil will not cause this.

With each oil change I am losing more and more oil. In the last 3 changes I went from losing 1/2 quart to 3 quarts. I have a very early build date (see my sig) on my car so I am thinking that maybe I need a new enging if it is increasingly burning more and more oil. I do alot of highway driving and I drive the car hard, but 2 quarts of oil is excessive.

Are you serious? So basically you are running on 1.5 qts of oil before the ecu senses a problem?

yes, running on 1.5 qts before the engine light went on.

After a pain in the neck oil consumptions test, nissan has offered me a new engine to date, although I went to a bbb hearing to request a buy back--I don't want the car. I will find out soon what the decison is. I also have the alignment, pull to the right, feathering tires front and rear problems (I got 4 new tire replacements from nissan)

Do a search under my name and oil consumption. I've posted extensively on this and went through the exact same problem you did. Went through the BBB, NNA, Adam Goodman, etc., and ended up with a new engine (although I tried to get them to buyback the car).

No smoke, no leak, just losing about 3 quarts per 3000 miles. Did the normal break-in, no mods. This problem was noticed at the first oil change. My engine was replaced at 8700 miles.

You need a new engine, and Nissan needs to figure out what the hell is going on with their motors.

same problem here - '03 Track w/ 26k miles. Nissan dealer just told me that I may need a new engine, and running another test to confirm.

Does anybody know what the new engine will do to the resale value of the vehicle? I'm assuming that it will leave a record in my vehicle history that people would be able to see on CARFAX.
