Default service engine soon? WTF?

Want to get some ideas on what may have happened. Over the weekend I was unusually low on gas, never let it down past half a tank, this time I was about a 1/4 tank or a little less. I was going to turn left at a "major intersection" and the green arrow was about to change to yellow and then to red, well what the hell did i buy this car for if i cant gun it and get through that damn thing before it changed. a little stupid? maybe, but damn fun. prior cars of mine would not have been able to handle that sharp of a turn at that speed. well to put the finishing touches on the turn i gunned it up to speed. 60mph road. When i get to the highway I notice that the service engine soon light is on. car is acting great though. never sputtered and hasnt since, been a few days now cause my dealer is 40 min away, just cant run there whenever. question is what could have happened? any guesses? before anyone says the gas cap, i know about this and that was the first thing i checked, it was on solid. when i called dealer they said not to worry as long as it was running fine, just to get it in when i can. will do so this friday.

When I bought mine I was told to make sure the gas cap clicks at least twice or the engine light might come on.
