Great price, Performance Nissan definitely has our best interests in mind.

Quakerroatmeal, a good dealer will match price. Show local dealer the appropriate post with revised part#. I bet some would sell you the old part.

What's the difference between old part vs the revised version? What was revised?

The revised one supposedly has stiffer springs in it, i cant confirm for sure as i dont have any of the old versions to compare with. The changes could be very minimal or you could find that Nissan prepacks those with pennies already lol not sure.

Well my warranty covers my hatch opening problem, and good things too! The Nissan stealership quoted it at $580. That's already 1/3 the cost of my warranty in just fixing some stupid hatch issue. Wow.

580$...LOL..and 580$ for what? Are they changing out your entire hatch and struts? That's hilarious.

Anybody else have a problem when changing out the spring lifts to brand new ones still having the problem of having to click the hatch multiple times still? Just changed mines out to new ones and still a problem.

idk whats wrong with mine, but i got new heavy duty struts from ebay from seller invotekken, (it works great!) and tried putting 2 pennies on each side, did NOT work, tried 3, didnt work, i even super sized it to 5 pennies on each side (it was a pain in the a** putting the rubber housing back on tho)... still have to hit the button once, then lift it a little bit then hit the button again... its pissing me off.

i have a nismo v1 spoiler installed.

any suggestion would really help thanks!

Thanks for this tip. I've owned the car for two years and just wrote off the problem as just a quirk! I some how stumbled upon this thread today and performed the $.04 trick. Problem Solved!

Wow, I have had this stupid problem ever since I bought my Z, I kind of just dealt with it thinking that there wasn't a solution....by chance i stumbled acros this thread!

I decided to use 3 pennies each side, just because I figured it would pop higher than 2 pennies, and man it works great, I don't have to use 2 hands to open my trunk anymore (one pushing the button, one ready under the hatch to lift it and soon as I push the button)

Hopefully, the extra thickness does not leave a dent.....only time will tell!

But it WORKS GREAT! THANKS MAN!

I too have a Nismo spoiler and it makes the hatch extra heavy. About a year ago I was smacked in the face by the hatch falling shut and it split my nose open right across the bridge between my two eyes...The dealer took care of it the next morning after seeing the gash and bruising by replacing both struts and the spring lifters -- apparently they installed the newer version of the spring lifters...now a year later the hatch is doing it again!

What I've done to improve my situation is:
-Installed heavy duty hatch struts, they work even when it's in the 20s (cold for Texas)
-Replaced the spring lifts
-Added ~4 pennies to each NEW lift
-Lowered the hatch latch mechanism (http://www.*********.com/forums/141-...attle-fix.html)

I believe the newer version of the spring lifters has a shortened metal shaft, when the spring is fully compressed I do not see the shaft extend past the base where it mounts to the hatch. What this means is if you add more than 2 pennies I cannot see how the shaft could possibly extend enough to hit the outside panel as noted by a few posters as the shaft doesn't extend past the base...

Easy fix! Thanks for info and picts. Pressing the release button twice every time i wanted the hatch open was unacceptable.

So you mean it should actually be popping open. I just got my 03 and all it does is crack it and in cold weather it doen't go up. Anyone have a fix for that?

Yeah don't push it, I got the dent in one side. It's small but I know it's there.

Just did this fix 5 min ago. Worked like a charm. I might look into the new springs just because if they're not too much. Big thumbs up!
