Im sure every every one is tired of hearing about all the problems that they are having with their Z, but i have one more that i havent seen any one talk about. I just bought a 2003 Base model and i have noticed when its at idle there is a clattering noise comming from the engine and it sounds/feels like a miss or something. and i only have 10,000 miles. its terrible!! if this is happening to any of yall please let me know. thanks a lot.

 

I have a similar noise that has been reported on the Maxima board in the past (same engine as yours). At low RPM (under 2500) under light throttle or coasting I can here a slight rattle/pinging.

Some have said it is the program trying to obtain low gas milelage. Don't know for sure.

 

maybe, i took it in to the dealership and they just called me back, and the guy said it was the "throtle motor" they are replacing it under warrenty so.... it just sucks not having my car.

I guess they mean the drive-by-wire electronic part that controls the throttle plate.

 

I think I have heard the same thing a few times when cold. Did they say if it could have damaged the engine ? Whenit does the noise, it sure does not sound good...

 

yea, maxima se, there is no throtle cable on the Z its controled by an electric motor i think its called a drive-by wire. and i dont think it hurts the engine, (i hope not) i think it just dosent really know how much fuel exactlly to give it at idle.

 

Ive been having the same problem with my 04 Z since I bought it. I might have to take it to the dealer then. ive just been ignoring it but its even louder know that i got my exhaust. Its a nasty idle.
