View Poll Results: Do you notice a "rough" or "erratic" Idle in your Z?
I notice it, but it's perfect. The dealership was right. The shaking just tells me that this car is about pure performance. I don't think it will hurt the car now or in the long run.

I notice it. It's a performance car, but with today's technology, it should be better than it is.

I notice it. It just doesn't seem right, performance or otherwise. I'm going to make an appointment with Nissan to have them look at it as soon as I can.

I don't notice any rough idle. I think everyone's being too sensitive right now. Besides, in 10 years, they'll all idle rough anyway.

The dealer swapped my ignition coils and spark plugs to different cylinders to see if the codes would pop up at another cylinder. They also adjusted my idle as well. After all this NO codes came up and it seemed to be running smooth. BUT I got my car back and after 5000 rpm the fuel would cut off and on and would have extreme difficulty to accelerate to redline. Immediately brought it back, they swapped all ignition coils from a brand new Z and it solved the "bucking" problem. So they ordered a whole new set of coils, ran consult and currently no codes are coming up. It seems that it is running much smoother than before and the misfires have disappeared. I listened to my car during idle for about 20 mins and about 4 times I suspected a misfire but it is really hard to tell now. Before it would misfire all the time and it was very obvious. The dealer also said that my car was idling better than the brand new one that they have on the floor. Don't know if he is just saying that though. He mentioned that from some odd reason Nissan deleted the consult code for bad ignition coils. Also on my car the check engine light will not go off if you get a misfire code.
This whole process took 10 business days!
Run consult if you get a chance! My car is stock right now but if you do have an aftermarket intake I'm wondering if it will set off some misfiring codes.

I have a 94 BMW 540i w/ a V8 and the idle is as steady as a rock. No movement at all. Flawless idle.
My 03 Z seems to "hover" in the general area of 600rpm. But it'll dip every now and then...not much, maybe just 50-100rpm but enough to where the you feel it.
I had the dealer take a look while they were fixing a TSB and they said the idle was "normal". It might be normal but it doesn't feel right.

Idle w/ AC is about 750 +/- 75 rpms
Idle w/o AC is about 550 +/- 75 rpm
It might drop for a sec or two but nothing out of the ordinary.
When I put my spacer on I had a leak and you could clearly tell it was a rough idle.
A grounding kit has been known to smooth the idle up.
THe stillen engine damper has been reported to help as well.

I have a very rough idle in my 04. Dealer gave me the "it's a sports car speach"
I took it to another dealer and they told me they wouldn't look at it under warranty because it was the responsiblity of the first dealer I took it to.
