Default Oil Change Question

I have been told different things about the first few oil changes on the Z. One guy is telling me to go to full synthetic right away (in fact at the 500 mile mark) and another has told me to use regular until the third oil change, and so on and so on. What do you all recommend? Thanks for the help.

i did mines on the 3rd oil change. My mechanic (also friend) says you should switch around 10K miles. and once you go synthetic, you shouldn't go back. took his advice. used Mobil 1.. $5 a quart!!! *says to myself... "its good oil... its good oil... its good oil"*

Even synthetic oil manufacturers say break car in with regular oil---something about the seals. Check out amsoil website, or motor oil bible.

A little off topic ,but i understand there are 14 bolts to be removed from the skid plate cover before you can access the oil filter???? tell me this is not so I bought some Rhino ramps to do my own oil changes since i dont trust my service dept ,but now im not sure i want to spend forever ratcheting off 14 bolts to just change the oil.

You don't have to remove the lower engine cover to change your oil. There is an access hole which allows you to reach the filter and drain plug. The last time I changed my oil I just removed one or two bolts to make the job a little easier but you can do it all through the access hole. It's just a little messier than taking of the cover since some oil will drip onto the cover if you don't remove it.

The higher you can raise your car, the better you'll be able to control how messy it is (with the underbody covering). With ramps... you'll have to work slow and deliberately while getting the plug off. Oil will start to come out fairly fast, use a protective covering to protect the ground from oil stains just in case
