Default Rotor Disassembly

Hi all,

I trying to take my old stock rotors off the Z to get them turned but seem to be having difficulties doing so. I removed the calipers completly and tried to yank the rotor off by itself but nothing!!! Do i need to unbolt anything else? Could the rotors have bonded with the rest of the axle by rusting together?

Any technical help would be greatly appreciated before I start hammering those suckers out with a rubber mallet.

Thanks

Which rotors are you removing? Front, rear, or both? The fronts should pull right off once you've removed the calipers. For the rears, make sure that the parking brake is off, as it uses drum brake shoes that will prevent you from removing the rear rotor if they're engaged. If the rotors still don't come off, you could try gently tapping them with a rubber mallet to see if that loosens them up. Good luck!

Are you coming to the Z-club track day next weekend, or the SCCA time trials the next week? I hope eveything's going well.

Hey Gary,

Long time no hear. I'm trying to get all rotors off. I tried taking off the front ones without success so I stoped and did not try the rear ones. I might have to use a mallet. Thanks for the advice on the parking brake, will make sure to disengage before working on it. I am going to the SCCA trial on the 19th, will you be there?
Everything's going great with the baby and all. Just trying to find time to play...... How are you doing? Have you done anything else to the Z?

One other thing to try might be grabbing one edge of the rotor and pushing and pulling (i.e. rocking) it back and forth to see if that gives you some leverage to get a little mobility and possibly break any rust that may have set in. You may also need to lift the rotor off of the lug bolts just a bit to get it to come off. If worse comes to worse, you COULD always have the shop that will turn your rotors do it, but they'll charge you and arm and a leg!

I'm glad things are going well with the baby - some of the locals were asking about that a few weeks ago. We figured that was taking up 110% of your time!

Yeah, I've done some more stuff to the Z. I had the Nismo power steering cooler and the 350Evo sway bars installed, and I'm installing (or at least attempting to install) the Nismo S-Tune springs/shocks and the Kinetix Racing camber and traction arms this weekend. Have you done anything else to yours? Did you end up getting those wheels you were looking at?

I'll be at the Time Trials on the 19th, so I'll look for you there.

I'll try your recommendations on the rotors. Looking forward to seeing some of you at the Trial on the 19th. I did get the wheels i was talking about. Kazeras - 18x8.5 front & 18x9.5 back. I also got the BFG g-force t/a 245/40/18 front & 275/40/18 back.
The setup should give me better traction in the corners!!!!

Take care and see you on the 19th
