Default brake light coming on

hey people,
For the last week my emergency brake light has been coming on at odd times while driving. Its the red lettered "brake" that you would see when you apply the parking brake. Here are some things that are odd about it:

1) I have never used my parking brake, so there is no way that it is stuck in an "on" position, plus i checked.

2) the light seems to come on the first time i apply the brakes significantly while driving. Then i can get the light to go off by pumping the brake a little while i am slowing down to a light. While i am stopped, light is off. But when accelerating the light comes back on and stays on untill the next traffic light when i can do all of the above again.

anybody have any ideas what is going on? obviously i am going to call my dealer about this, but i thought i would get some first guesses here cause as we all know the dealer is never the most informed about these cars. thanks for the help.

Yeap, depending on the mileage it is probably due to worn pads, so you might want to check on that before adding fluid as when you change pads it will increase the fluid in your reservoir.

Now that i think about it, its probably a mix of the two. I am getting up towards 28k miles and I am guessing that the pads are getting worn. I have heard of a bunch of people here having to get pads a lot sooner than this. I know its related to driving style. while i am not harsh on the brake i do a fair amount of city driving so i am guessing that they are due. Thanks alot.
