I'm hoping these aren't signs of impending transmission implosion. I have an 03Z Track with 6spd and approximately 25,000 miles.

When I have the stick in 1st gear, with the clutch IN I hear a moderately loud whirring noise. This is most noticable crusing thru parking lots at low speeds. If I put the stick into neutral with the clutch in the noise disappears. This has gotten worse with time, and I definitely don't remember hearing it a few months ago.

I ALSO hear the noise when the car is IN 1st gear or 2nd gear (quieter) with the clutch out, but it's less noticable under the sound of the engine and exhaust.

Any ideas what this could be? I don't have any stiffness shifting into 1st or 2nd gear, and have had no problems with the higher gears. The sound is definitely coming from the front of the car, so it's nothing in the diff.

Synchros? Throw out bearing? I'm going to take the car to the dealer this week but would definitely like to be better informed.

I'm also hearing a clicking from the driver window motor after I roll up the window, but I have a pretty good idea what's wrong there.

I just took my Z to the dealer today with the same type of symptoms. Does your clutch rattle in the first two gears as well?? Ill keep you posted with what the dealer says about mine.

By the way, my car has a little over 8k miles on it, what is the milage on yours??
