OIL CHANGE - $60 at dealer?
I went for my 7,500 mile service at a dealer this weekend, and I was charged $66.00.
They basically did a standard oil change and then checked a few things, and gave me my car back.
Is it supposed to cost this much?
Does everyone go to the dealer for service? Does it void the warranty if you go elsewhere?
Also, should I follow the rule of Y months OR X miles for each service? The thing is, I don't drive my car much, so it took me 10 months to hit 7,500 miles. But the manual says every 6 months OR 7,500 miles. Is it safe to just go by the odometer?
Sorry if these questions have already been covered.

$60 dollars is way too much for an oil change! What I do is buy the oil and filter and then take it to a gas station and let them change it for $12.00. Will not void your warranty, I change my oil every 3K miles, it will not hurt to change at 6K miles either.

Ya my dealer charges $29.99 for an oil change (3750 miles) and then suggests a $69.99 service (7500 miles) which is basically an oil change and they "inspect" some stuff.
I politely declined the $69.99 ripoff. But $30 for an oil change isn't too bad.

yeah i paid $40 the last time... and believe me that was my last. they also did a 20 point check inspection which was basically useless. I could've checked them myself in 5 mins. it was something along the lines like.. check tire wear, brake pads, belts, hoses, ect.. anyways, i started doing my own now.. much cheaper and i know it gets done right. real easy to do in 20 mins..

Negotiated free oil changes for mine as a condition of purchase - Nissan dealerships sometimes are willing to do so to ensure you keep coming in for service on other stuff.

I can see why you got charged $60 for the 7500 mile service cause it is a bunch of BS. But if it was just an oil change, I can see you paying that much if you got synthetic, but even then it is a stretch. Here in Cali at Performance, they charge like 25 bucks for a normal oil change, $40 for semi-synthetic (whatever the hell that means) and around $50 for synthetic.
Also, I don't think you should be changing your oil every 7500 miles or 6 months. I think for the Z, its more like 4 months or 3750 miles. My Audi only needed an oil change every 15000 miles and those were free, so who knows who to believe.

I know many will hold there heads in shame but wallyworld(Walmart) does Mobile 1 synthetic full service (pokin around for 20 minutes) for 38.00 out the door the oil a lone sells for 28.00 not a bad price fro no work , I am lazy and low I can barley get on the ramp I have to go on empty gas to be able to clear the ramps
I bring my own oil to the dealer and it only costs like 15 i think, maybe less. 60 is way too much unless they are using good synthetic oil. If that is the case, buy the oil yourself and bring it to the dealer.

what do u guys do about the annoying under panel that you have to take off everytime its time for an oil change? i can pretty much take it off and put it back on less than 5 mins, but has anyone come up w/ a method of making something of a snap off locks or something in that nature?

I guess I am the true dumby for paying $115 for my last oil change that consisted of some type of intake cleaning. They said they have been known to clog up and cause problems. I got reemed! So,....... add me to the list of dumbies!
by the way, I have the coupons for oil changes that give me the oil change without charge, since I paid for them at purchase. So that charge was in addition.

BTW, I bought Mobil-1 by the quart at $3.23 a quart. I bought 3 cases, and I didn't pay tax either.

I do my own oil, I had my first oil change for free by the dealer, but after seeing how they do the oil, I have done my own since. One guy here had the dealer do his oil, and they overfilled by 4-5 gallons.

Yeah, my dealer did the same thing, they charged me for 5 years up front when I bought the car. The salesman said they were free, but after checking, I found out they actually added 5 years worth to the loan. Lets See:
5 Years = 20 oil changes X $27 each oil change which should = $540. Instead the dealer charged me over $739. WTF, I ended up cancelling after my first oil change. Was pro-rated and charged $90 for my first oil change and reimbursed the rest. I was so pissed, never again, never again, Did I say I hate DEALERS!
