Default Has anyone really eliminated feathering?

I've read all the posts on tire wear (feathering, cupping, roaring, call it what you will). I have had multiple alignments, rotations and replacements. I'm on my third set (the latest have the new tread pattern) and it is starting to come back again! Many people alude to fixes with different shocks, springs, tires, suspension members, frame bending, etc. What I want to hear are first hand success stories.

If you had OE tire feathering and had your tires replaced at least once by Nissan and then made a change and were able to eliminate it please tell us what worked for you.

Please give specifics about severity of initial problem and exactly what you did to fix the problem. Please include manufacture, model and part numbers if you replaced parts and how many miles you have accumulated since you fixed it.

Thanks in advance for sharing your solution.

i have searched this entire forum for 2 years and i've never found anyone EVER who found a permanent fix for the problem. a couple people reported they were planning to install new front control arms(from 350evo) a few months ago, and i haven't really checked here since then. be interested to hear how that worked out though.

I eliminated feathering after 2 sets of RE040's feathered.

Replaced the tires with non-RE040's (that's the big thing, I think) had a performance shop align. No more feathering, I have worn a full set of fronts down with no feathering.

More details: I changed to 245/40/18 fronts to eliminate understeer, also added Eibach springs to smooth out the ride. Tire brands I have used are Kumho and Falken. I'm not sure if any of these had any effect.

When did you change the springs? How much did they lower the car? At lease one post in the feathering discussion claims that the Z suspension was designed to be lower but Nissan raised the ride height at the last minute.

I think I am going to put 245/40/18 Goodyear F1 GS-D3's on the front when the 3rd set of RE040's go.

I installed the springs about the same time I replaced the second set of RE040's, I can't remember exactly. I like the ride improvement, but they lowered the car a bit too much! It looks good, but I scrape a bit on higher driveways and speed bumps.

I highly recommend the switch to 245/40/18 on the front. The car used to push (understeer) like a b1tch on high speed turns, now it tracks beautifully.

First Noticed Feathering ~4400
1st Fix @ ~ 5400
Second Notice of Feathering (Latest TSB)~ 11000 maybe sooner
2nd Fix @ ~12000

Currently 22000+ with NO sign of feathering returning
so it has been over 10,000 miles.

These are still the original tires, with no suspension mods.

Although the tires were never replaced (just X rotated) I believe that they were bad enough that they should have been. I had to argue with the service manager to get anything done properly at all, and he wasn't going to do me any favors.

Well...So much for this claim. I have been checking the tread for feathering like I had before. I wasn't checking for the horrible cupping that I have. HOLY CRAP! 2 tread lines have a depth of ~2mm then the next 2 are worn all the way down. It alternates around the inside of both front tires.

Sorry for the false hope
