Putting my Z on jack stands

I've done this with other cars with no problems, but I've also never cared about screwing other cars up the way I care about my Z, so could someone with practical experience please tell me how to get my Z on 4 point jack stands?
Note: Tools at my disposal: Floor Jack, OEM jack, 4 jack stands
Normally, I would lift the rear by setting the floor jack under the differential and push up on it, but I'm not sure if that is safe for my car. For the front, I would normally use the crossmember, but I can't really see anywhere that looks suitable to lifting with a floor jack on the Z.
Do I need to do it from one side then the other, and not from front to back? If so, where do I lift from with the jack so as to be able to put my stands in the proper mounting points?

Thanks, plumpzz, though I have to admit, that sounds a little incomplete. How do I get the fronts in? Where on the suspension do you advise to put the jackstands? Nearly the entire assembly is aluminum, which I wouldn't consider a suitable base for the stands.

yeah you're absolutely right about the assembly being aluminum. If im working on the back i tend to do that. If i want the whole car up, i usually do 1 side, then the other. Right in front of the rear tire welll theres a steel frame portion for jacks and lifts, as well as right behind the front tire well. You can put it up from that area on each side.

I put hard rubber bushings on top of the stands so when i lower the car it's not so violent. The bushing are actually suspention spacers that i found at pep boys, they are square about an inch think and fit perfectly ontop of my stands.

I always use the rear pumpkin to lift the rear. IN the front I place jack stands under the aluminum lower control arms. I haven't had a problem yet.

Just bought this one after looking over all the ones at HF.

Had a question on jack stands. I was going to get some 2 ton ones, but I noticed that the 4 ton ones said they were for SUV's. I was wondering if the 2 ton jack stands would work on a 4500lb SUV? They should since 4000lb+ of pressure won't be on any one jack stand.

It depends, I think the SUV ones are taller. Some SUVs may have trouble with a regular jackstand at its maximum height. There might be so much travel in the suspension that the wheels are still on the ground.

If I wanted to get the entire car up, is this an option? Roll the front up on ramps and jack the rear up with a floor jack to get my stands on both side of the rear. Is this method safe? Looking to doing the exhaust myself and would like to have the entire car up. Thanks

Thx Chris.... I will be going with HFC so I will need to get the entire car up. I still need to know if it is a good idea to run the front end on ramps and use stands for the rear?

I would jack one side up and put the jack stands in place, then go around and do the other side.
When I have to place the car on stands, I place the jack right next to the spots they left open for this purpose and position the jack stands to support to car at those points.
