Been working to get some proper landscape shots. Books make it seem so easy. I think I learned being there at the right time is the real key. Warning! Put on some shades
These were taken in Haleiwa, past Sunset.

Waimea...

Ewa Beach, where development is going on at Ocean Point.

Crazy me... wielding an expensive camera and a nice car in Nanakuli

HDR would have helped tremendously, but my experience with it is that it exposes lots of noise in the shadows. As much as I like to process pics, I'd hate to spend more time in photoshop.
I'll have to pick up a book on dodge and burning... still have lots to learn about photo processing.

Yeh HDR's are great..I work w/ them all day long. the exposure control is great inside HDR Shop or CS2...just take a little bit to set up....nice work.

A lowly XTi with 28-135mm IS... all shots are handheld. Although I did buy a 40D two days ago, and have yet to open it. I'll put it through it's paces soon.

Nice pictures...but there is no detail in the highlights at all due to over-exposure. Try adjusting your exposure settings for the pictures with the sun/light source in the frame. Go in small steps to avoid losing too much detail in the shadows. All in all looks pretty good though.

You won't beleive what I processed them with... DPP and iPhoto... I hate spending too much time on post...
I'll tell you what though, getting a car in a sunset is tougher than I expected. I'm going to experiment more with a san marino blue z next Thursday...

nice pices! I like 1, 5 & 8. The sillouettes are pretty cool, on a silouete picture I like to see the foreground object or I don't, not half-way. What was said by another poster, expose for the highlights, or wait till a little later and use a tripod.
All in all pretty cool pix!
I'm expecting my 40D from Ritz tomorrow, I'm excited!

To appease some of you here, I actually processed this last night (you guys can check the exif data of the time stamp of file creation), along with the other batch, but again, comparing them, I preferred the darker, mysterious silhouetted look, and higher saturation of the other pics. That's what's great about protography, there truly is no wrong or right. I truly wanted to take the details away from the car, make it look like any other Z. Don't want to get accused of being a picture ****
Until then, I'm on a quest to take "that special shot." Damn this photography!!! I feel like I'm a crackwhore, but instead of crack, I just need to take pictures! Just got my fix with the 40D, and I know the high is only going to last until I need that Tokina 10-17 fishy. Goddamn you photography gods!!! OK, whatever. Ahem...
Oh, BTW, for those who have that photographic eye... how did I do on composition? I threw that rock next to the car to give it some tension. How's the layering of the foreground, water, and sky?
I'm going to the same spot next Thursday, and hopefully, the clouds are out and no druggies are out there. I'm going to try and use a 5-8 second shutter with tripod and see the results. All the above shots were handheld... getting too lazy!
