Default Hawaii Sunset Pics II (... more strobing fun.)

There wasn't too many clouds out, so conditions wasn't that great. But the ending part of the sunset caught fire.

Yes, the other wheel was not lit properly last time... took care of that, but I should have lit the drivers side of the booty... doh!

Excellent job with the strobes!

I wish I had/knew how to use off-camera lighting.

Nice pics. But may I just say as one who is awaking to 30 degree weather that I hate you! Don't take it personally though.

Impact 6' light stands from B&H... cheap ($20), and most importantly, well built. I bought the Manfrotto 5001B ($50) stands like Strobist.com recommended, and honestly, just get the Impacts... they also come in 8' flavor. It's cheaper, and just as well built.

Also get the Impact umbrella brackets and Super Clamp. IMO, you're just wasting $$$ on a name brand for these items.

Triggers? I have the Elinchrom Skyports, and I must have been 125-150ft out for some of the telephoto shots (250mm with a crop camera... fitting in the car in vertial orientation, you need to be far away). No problems.

Of course, there are other options for triggers, like eBay (cactus), the venerable Pocket Wizard, and now, Alien Bee Cybersync triggers.
