I called the cops at 3am which was about an hour after the whole accident happened. At first I thought it was a hit and run because I was in such a shock, I didn't think about looking on the windshield for a note, later on when the cop was about to leave after filing the report, we realized there was a note on my car and the cop went over to the guys house because supposedly his car wasn't driveable to come over, even though after hitting my car he was able to drive the 1 mile back to his house. Now tomorrow morning I'm meeting up with his insurance company to assess all the damage and hopefully have it listed as totaled.
Uggh, are you saying they did NOT go track this guy down immediately and test him?

Probably another Z, I was looking at EVO's or STi's but none of them appeal to me as much as a Z. I wouldn't mind a G because it has a backseat but finding a good deal on a G is much harder than on a Z at least from what I've been looking at.

They did go over to his house and get his info and all that, as for testing him for being drunk, I really don't know if they did, it didn't mention it on our part of the police report.

That's terrible. What pisses me off about these situations is that it seems like if you're drunk and get in an accident, it's a better option to run based on the penalties. If they don't catch you, then you just deal with your damaged vehicle. If they do catch you, you're still only facing a fraction of the penalties than if you were to stick around. That has always bugged me.

It'll be hard to replace your Z with another one that has low mileage like yours did, much less your mods, but if it ever happened to me I'd definitely look into an '07-'08 just for the HR. Though, looking at the pictures, it very well might not be totaled which is just as terrible.

Good luck!

I completely agree, and even if they do repair my car, what kind of compensation can I get on top of that? Cause now I'm gonna be sitting with a car with an accident on its record and money for CCW's but I'll be worse then I was before the accident. Do I sue for more money or do they give me more money? I've never been in this kind of situation ever so I really don't know what to do.

you'll have to sue if you want more money than the cost of fixing it.

Yep, that's exactly it. Insurance will not give you more money, you will have to sue this guy in civil court, but I don't have experience with that.

I've never understood when people justify an accident or something like this by saying "that's why you have insurance". Okay, yes I do have insurance, but that doesn't change the fact that they likely won't cover the aftermarket parts (you NEED to check on this, mine will cover up to $5,000, but it differs by company and policy), and it won't cover the fact that I don't have my car for X amount of time (yes you can get a rental car, but it won't be a Z) and it definitely won't cover your Z now having an accident on it's history completely jacking resale value. Hell, they may not even ever get it to drive the same.

As much as I'd hate for my Z to be in an accident, if it was I'd pray that it's totaled so I could start fresh. BUT you still wouldn't be out of the gates yet, you'd still have to deal with how much they would give you for it, and with these economic times our Z's values have dwindled severely. Gap insurance will cover this is you have it. Having an 04.5 and living in the same area with about 15k more miles, I can tell you they've been hit severely.

Let us know when you get some updates from the appraisal guy.

That guy smacked the chit out of your car. Good Luck. Hope it gets totaled.
Got rear ended by a drunk driver 2 weeks ago. Caused about $4,000 worth of damage. Hope to get it back soon.

yeah i was gonna say the same thing.... Unless there was frame damage which can really add up on an estimate.

Why did you park your car on the street? Don't you have any other place to park it?

This is why I will NEVER park my car on the street. There is no way I would want some drunk driver, kid on a joy ride, or stupid woman texting while driving veer our of their driving lane just a bit and nick my car.

so just because a drunk driver might hit your car you don't park on the street? why do you drive a car? don't you know a drunk driver could run into you one day and kill you? maybe you should live in a bubble?

I parked on the street because at my moms house, we have no drive way or garage, and at my dads house, his Z is in the garage so no matter where I go, I have to park on the street, except for when I get back to arizona where my townhouse with have a garage THANKFULLY!
