Lotus Elise with a FairladyZ
Met up with a fine group of people doing the mountain twisties. One car in the group included a new Lotus Elise. FYI ... the car on the left is a Suzuki Cappuccino .. small, cute, light, and modded with a female driver who really knows how to drive and loves cars ...
The Z looks huge compared to the Elise ...

BTW, what is the front plate policy (and penalties therein) in Japan?

The front plate policy is mandatory -- I have never-ever seen any car in Japan without the front plate. I don't know what the penalties are -- but good question. I have to think pretty severe given the baddest of the bad all have their front plates (and rears as well) mounted with push back plate moutings. I saw one Silvia today with the rear plate almost horizontal.

Nice pics of your Z and the Elise.
Here's one waaaaay off topic question. I was in Japan last summer, and I saw some Z's while I was there. Your main plate number matches one of the Z's that I walked-by, but I can't read the other detail from your posted pics. What are the odds that I actually snapped some pictures of your Z while wandering Japan? Is this your Z?

It looks like you were up in Matsumoto in Nagano Prefecture. Great place .. and a lot of east Japan car clubs meet up in that area
Everything in that license plate is the same except for the area and the little Japanese "hiragana" to the left of the main number. I live in the western area of Japan.
Not many personalized choices are available here. I have seen "350" many times .. also "33" .. and "35-00".
PS ... I am very sorry to read about your unfortunate accident.
PPS .. My previous plan before buying my Z and still a very strong desire --- is to have my "dream" car with a plate -- "34" .. still considering.

Thanks for the condolences on the Z. I hope that it will be fixed before the snow falls in Rochester.
I was very fortunate while wandering through Tokyo to see many great cars. I think that my favorite was either the Nismo 400R or an insanely modified NSX-R. The thing that was most amazing to me was the huge size of the highway rest stops as well as the large car clubs meeting up at them.
I will be back in Japan next March for a semester exchange in my MBA program. It would be great to actually meet up with a board member in another country.

HEUGE...
1. The NIMSO400R is quite a machine ... simply beautiful.
2. Interestingly .. in a 3 mile radius .. there are 2 highly modified NSX`s .. both red .. and one belonging to the owner of a tuning shop and the other ... a driving instructor at a Honda Driving School for newbs getting their their license.
3. Get that MBA .. that is the ticket !

There is a dealer that I pass frequently which is one of the main distributors for Lotus. I could see the Elise in the showroom, but the size looked normal. I was very surprised when I saw it.
When I met up with the owner .. he let me sit in the driver's seat. The entry into the Elise is tight. The side panels are wide. This necessitates an entry sitting sideways and pulling-sliding into the cockpit while turning the body.
Once in .. a great and tight fit. Legs are straight out .. pedals are close for great heel-and-toe ... and close reach to the shifter.
