I hate to do it... i even have a friend that should be bringing his civic to race me... but a pothole has taken my front tire generally out of racing condition... so i will be cheerleading...

Well, i can't find my dang helmet, i might have to just practice my launch a bunch and make one good pass, unless of course i don't break 14's...which will be very sad and I'll probably just jerk the car into the wall at that point. hahahaha

The track has 4 you can borrow. I need one, so that leaves 3. I doubt all the Z's there will break into 13s. If they do, well the first time's ok, since you didn't know you'd do that. From then on, they'll ask you to wear one. And not all the Zs will probably go together, so if there's a shortage, just borrow it for that run, I guess. You need a valid driver's license to borrow it from the track, fyi.

last time i was out there, i was driving my ss. i ran 4 times, all of which were under 14 seconds. this all without a helmet. i really dont think they give a damn unless you have a really fast car.

 

That's because you look like every other car there.

Seriously, from what I've experienced, they care enough to not let you run. The control tower radios the workers to tell you to wear a helmet. If they don't care Saturday, that's better for us. I'm still getting a helmet though. BTW, the helmet slows you down (it does me anyway).

 

The Texas Motor Speedway is owned by the same people (Lowes) that own Infineon where I race. You were lucky if you made four sub 14 passes and didn't get caught. They have too much to lose by overlooking that. Here they give you one free ride and after that you can't run unless you have a bucket on your head.

Ahhhh, thanks. I just read up on the rules and if you run the 1/8 and are not quicker than 8.60 you don't have to have head gear...so i can just do a few 1/8 mile runs and when i feel good about a pass i will just keep going and see what my 1/4 ends up at. An 8.60 in the 1/8 is somewhere in the neighborhood of a lower to mid 13sec 1/4.

 

Why would you go down the quarter mile half assed like that? Do the full run. What you may think is good may not be good when you see the actual 1/4 time. Alternately, what you may think was a decent run, may turn out to be your best.

If helmets are an issue, then don't worry too much. Not all cars there will break 13s, nor will all cars race all at the same time and rest all at the same time. After everybody does 2-3 initial runs, I'll try to group everybody so the fast cars are separated so the helmets won't be an issue. Then toward the end, the fast cars can go head on. I already have an idea as to who are the faster ones.

BTW, half the people are cheerleading.. WTF?

 

a 8.8-8.9 1/8 will net you a 13.8 or so. I just checked two of my time slips.

Unless that is a particularly fast track most of the stock Z's will be above 14 seconds.

 

I'm really excited...this will be my first time back at Ennis since 1999, and my first ever time trying to launch with a manual tranny. Since i moved up north the only track i have been to is the 1/8 in Denton.
