Recently a few of you guys expressed some interest in going to the drag strip again for some good old drag racing. I will be going to Dallas Raceway in Crandall on Dec 20th, 2009. This will probably be the last time I go until the track opens again in 2010 and the last time you can go without going alone.
Last time I went out, I pulled a 12.2 with the clutch being fried to all hell after a couple of runs there (nitrous related, so you N/A guys need not worry). Now that I have a brand new clutch to toast, I'll be seeing if I can back up my claims of 12.0/12.1 with an actual time slip.
You guys are more than welcome to come with me and see if you can set/beat your own personal best. This is the perfect opportunity to just have fun and spend some quality time with your beloved vehicle.
Here's the basic info:
Who:
Everybody is welcome to participate or spectate.
When:
December 20th, 2009
Where:
12:00 PM -- rendezvous @ Starbucks (SW corner of Campbell/exit 26 & Central/75)
12:15 PM -- Leave Starbucks and head to the track
1:00 PM -- Arrive at the track, get ready, then race
Cost:
$10-25 -- depending on whether or not you race and how much they charge that day.
Bring:
Full/half helmets -- required for cars running <14 seconds; bring extra for others if possible
Long pants & closed toe shoes -- it's a safety thing
Drinks & food or money -- you can always buy there or leave and come back; your preference
P.S. - Don't worry if you've never drag raced at the strip before or if you think you suck. We all had to start somewhere and it's not that hard anyway. How hard can going in a straight line shifting as fast as you can be?
It's more for fun and to BS with the local enthusiasts anyway. I'll try to help when I can, though, if you need some pointers. The weather is probably going to be pretty damn good so all Z/Gs should all be in 13s regardless of your skill level.

I'm going to try to come out and run....can you believe it ?
I want to get some times under my belt. I wish I had better tires though.
Chris,
Will a skateboard helmet pass for the strip ?

You serious? Awesome! What tires are you on right now and what size? If you can get a hold of some good sticky 18s, you'd be better off.
Are you coming?

Yes, I really do want to get out there and do this. Right now I have these Pirelli's P Zero Rosso 275/40/19's ......they aren't the stickiest tires I've had.
What about my helmet ? Do I need a full face or open face, etc...?
Long pants & closed toe shoes.
So a helmet like this isn't good ?

Most tracks require a helmet that is rated snell 200 or better. Your skateboard helmet will not work. Rules vary, but this is a pretty general rule for any certified (nhra, etc) track.
Chris, what clutch did you get?

I ran the 1/8th mile in Mansfield and had fun. I guess it's time to step it up a notch.

ACT Streetlight Flywheel + ACT HDG6 Clutch

Isn't your 5XX whp TTZ's best a 12.2, same as mine? I'm planning on shaving a tenth or two this Sunday.

I'm excited about today! Hopefully, I can figure out how to launch on the new clutch/flywheel. This'll be the last time the track is going to be open this year.

I hope I didn't screw anything up during the spacer install and break something at the track. I already know I over-torqued one bolt. I guess my torque wrench doesn't do low settings very well.
Full or open, it doesn't matter, but yours won't work. It has to meet/exceed the Snell 2000 requirements. Motorcycle helmets are also acceptable for test and tune days.

Sounds like you had some experience. This will definitely be fun.
