Save the day - Mid-A Z/G Winter Drive
NOTE: This post has been updated to keep current information at the top. Please consider this post as the "official" post as you read through this thread....Don't want people to get confused. Thanks.
Hey all!,
For those who didn't get to go on the latest drive, you missed a great time. We had alot of fun cruising out to the Breaux Vineyards in the hills of Northern VA. It was awesome to drive some twisties and it was great to meet some new folks in our growing community.
Since it turned out to be a fun time, I thought I'd see what the interest level is for doing something similar in the new year.
I'd like to propose two dates and whichever works best for the majority, we'll just bite the bullet and go for it. Post which one works for you, and we'll keep a running tally.
So here's the proposal..
a) Saturday, January 29th
or
b) Saturday, February 5th
Of course it is winter, so these dates are weather pending, but maybe mother nature will be nice to us this year.
We'll run this "poll" until the end of December, and whatever day is winning on January 1st will be the drive date. Does this sound ok to everyone?
Based on responses from the last drive, it seems these things should take one of two forms:
The Split: About 3 or 4 hours total time which would include a 1(-ish) hour stop in the middle or multiple shorter stops along the way as part of that 3-4 hours. One of these stops would likely include lunch or similar.
The Push: Probably no more than 2 or 3 hours of continuous driving with only a quick stretch break along the way and an optional late-lunch or dinner at the end.
So let's see what the interest level is, and go from there.
If you're interested, reply with the following information:
1. Date selection: Which one works for you?
2. Drive preference: Split or Push
- a. If Split, would you commit to lunch so if needed, we could 'heads-up' a restaurant that we are coming?
- b. If Push, would you attend a group lunch or dinner afterwards? (I ask because if enough people will attend, I'd be happy to arrange for a place with a meeting or party room)
3. Location: I'm sure there are good scenic/enthusiastic routes in MD and VA, where would people like to go?
Any other suggestions/ideas?
If you're interested in the drive, but don't care to hang out and socialize during/after, that's cool, I just thought this would be a good chance to hang out with a bunch of other car nuts, have a beer, whatever. Hope this works out!

Re: Save the day - Mid-A Z/G Winter Drive
Another drive in January sounds like a great idea. Thanks for the early notice! Here are my responses:
1. Date selection: Good or Bad
- Both actually. Bad because I'll be in Puerto Rico that weekend and won't make the drive . Good because I'll be in Puerto Rico that weekend on a mini-vacation .
2. Drive preference: Split or Push
- I would prefer The Push because I am usually a little sluggish after a meal and some beer (assuming we are eating at a place that serves beer). I'd like to tackle the first order of business, and that's the drive, and then relax afterwards. This option is also good for those who don't want to hang out when we're done.
3. Location: I'm sure there are good scenic/enthusiastic routes in MD and VA, where would people like to go?
- I've been up past Frederick, MD a couple of times and there seems to be plenty of open roads out there. Anyone familiar with that area??? I moved down here to MD about a year and a half ago and haven't done the country scenic site seeing yet, so I cannot offer any useful input.
Anyway, I hope many people respond to this thread.

1. I'm available that day - I hope the weather is cooperative.
2. Slight preference for push as Jester has advocated, but certainly willing to go along w/ split if the the majority prefers that.
3. While VA offers alot of roads, I vote for MD so we can hopefully benefit from some members' radar detectors.

1. Bad: I will be in Myrtle Beach on a golf retreat, and will not make the drive (except hopefully down the center of a beautiful fairway) . Any other weekend will work for me, and I would truly enjoy another drive.
2. Push, I agree with jester7500 take care of 1 thing at a time. I would commit to a lunch/dinner
3. I am not very good with the mapping of a route with twisties, so I am game for anything.

I really wish I would have paid more attention to the posts about the last drive. Seeing the pics and how much fun it looked you can count me in. Being fairly new to the area what could be better than meeting some new people and driving my car!!!
1.) the date is good for me
2.) Push would be better, for same reason above, but I'd be up for either
3.) VA or MD is good for me, but I'm watching my speed...maybe...MD state police got me doin 87 on I-68 going to back to Ohio

Looking like that's a possibility with a lot of looks and no replies...I'm a big tool and I keep checking to see if anyone else has any interest...BTW any date is good for me, as long as I know a little in advance

I agree with vlm7 on everything. But I'm indifferent for the most part whether is MD or VA. Of course I'd prefer MD b/c it's closer to me but I always use my radar detector regardless of where I am...yup...I'm a rebel.

How about this for a suggestion...
Have your drive on Feb 12th or 13th and make the destination Virginia International Raceway. You can hang out with us for our track event. There is a nice grill on site as well as a classic race car museum.
I realize this would conflict with those who are planning on participating in our track event, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
