I just recently learned that VADA (Virginia Automobile Dealers Association) is lobbying the Commonwealth to stop requiring front plates on vehicles registered in Virginia
. If VADA is successful 2006 may be the last year a front plate is required
.
The State/Commonwealth is leaning toward this request because it will cost less money to only provide one plate while they still charge the citizens the same amount - and we all know how much governements like more money! Personally I would pay a little more than I do to see this happen.
Opposed is law enforcement. They say that front plates help them identify criminals better - it is a not a matter of just traffic violations.
If you feel compelled to aid VADA, just send something to your VA State Officials. Or make it easy on yourself if you're interested in supporting this cause. Looks like your voice may well be heard by simply adding your name to the following petition...

Hope it works out. I just got a ticket for front plate and altered suspension not too long ago. Did you know in VA, if you alter your suspension, the front and rear bumpers have to be within range of 14-22 inches off the ground?
So we would have to RAISE our vehicles!!! And btw, I got the ticket for my Nismo suspension. Court awaits next Friday.

Has anyone read some of the signatures? Ricers:
It ruins the look of the car and is cost gas mileage.
The front plate interferes with the airflow to my oil cooler, and intercooler.
Those comments won't help lol

Ive gotten both those tickets before. On my way back from VA Tech a couple years ago when I had my 300zx. Can you believe that the cop actually took out a measuring tape and got on his knees on the side off the highway to measure how low the car was. Then he gave me a ticket for No front tag, lowered suspension and Illegal tint.
I really hope this front tag thing goes away, all it is, is an excuse to pull you over to find other stuff.

^ Ah Hugo....yeah man. I had to wait on Braddock Rd for like 20 mins cause he had to call another cop to bring out a 6 inch ruler! LOL. And he WANTED to pull me over for speeding, but when he paced me I was going the speed limit so he just pulled me over and tried to get me for what he could. I think he would have felt dumb if he pulled me over and didn't give me any tickets. But if that's the case, I would have respected him much more for doing just that. He was actually really nice otherwise and we chit-chatted about Va Tech for a bit.
I gained 10rwhp when I took my front license plate off! Mainly since I haven't fixed the 2 holes on my front bumper, air passes straight through those holes for a direct shot!
No ticket yet here, cops can't catch me with that much hp pumping!

I've gotten prolly about 4-5 tickets for no front plate, I gave up in this a while ago. Shayt was getting expensive. Signed the petition, no front plate is just an excuse to pull car enthusiasts over and write us a bunch of tickets.

This petition has been around for years, and will never go anywhere. Everyone knows having a front plate serves no purpose, but it's a revenue-generator for the state since it's an easy ticket to issue.
3 years, and 38K miles, and I've only been pulled over in the Z once, and that was for "speeding", but I got out of it since I called the park policeman's bluff. I have no front plate, no cats (my car is probably louder than Toby's), lowered, and I've never been harassed. If you drive a 4 cyl. riceburner, then you're a cop magnet. *cross-fingers that he doesn't get pulled over in the Super-poo daily driver*
