Absinthe is legal to consume but not legal for US stores to sell ... That's why everyone gets it from overseas. I had a friend buy a bottle of it for me in Germany.

It basically tastes like Zambuca with a little gasoline poured into it. If you don't like licourice tasting liquors this is not for you. As for me I love buca on the rocks. So I tried the absinthe on the rocks ... ittts gottt aaah kickkkk. I'm not sure about "seeing" things, but it's definitely a different kinda buzz.

warning: unless you want a massive hang over I wouldn't have more than three shots of it.

There is nothing in it that will make you "pop" on a **** test. I have friends that work for the drug screening lab.

I love Sambuca, so I am sure I will like this goodness.... I will find out this weekend for sure..

I actually get horrible hangovers, and took 2 tylonol before bed and felt great the next morning (unlike usually when I drink). It doesn't make you Halucinate (there isn't enough wormwood in it anymore). It does get you drunk quickly without really noticing, so dont plan on driving anywhere for a while. And you should NOT drink Absinth straight. Supposedly, if there is enough wormwood in it, it will kill tastebuds because of the high content and it does not taste/feel good going down. Carmelize the sugar and stir till dissipated, then shoot. In my opinion, there are many other liquors that are much harder to get down the hatch. This wasn't bad at all.

Also, they forgot to say that you are supposed to mix it 2 shots water to one shot Absinth as well, then stir the carmelized sugar. when you mix the water and Absinth, it should turn an opaque white. So its more that just a "shot". Its a little more.

Default wormwood

The main ingredient causing the Hallucination is Woodwood.
It was banned from production in Europe and the US after World War I.

a bit of info from Google.

Wormwood, Artemisia Absinthium has been used for centuries as a moth repellant, general pesticide and as a tea/spray to repel slugs and snails. Before its' toxicity was known it was used as the name implies: a worming medicine for people and animals. Historic references to wormwood go back as far as 1600 B.C. in Egypt. Wormwood leaves contain absinthin a substance which can be toxic to other plants. You may have heard of the alcoholic drink "absinthe" a green colored beverage that is now illegal in most countries. And rightfully so as it has been said that the painter Vincent van Gogh was imbibing of absinthe when he lopped off his ear to send to a woman.

Wormwood (artermisia absinthium) is a herb that has psychoactive and hallucinogenic properties. Wormwood is said to affect the neuro receptors in the brain in a similar way to THC (the psychoactive component present in cannabis).

I've had a few shots of it... this is the way we drank it.

Pour a shot in a shot glass, take a spoon full of sugar and dip it so that the absinth soaks into it and the sugar starts soaking up the alcohol. Light the sugar on fire and let it drip into the drink and then mix it around when it's all gone and then drink it.. or light the drink on fire of course. I had 3 or 4 shots and nothing happened to me, so I think it's alright.

Oh and if you like Sambuca and anisette liquor then you need to try Arak. It's an arabic anisette drink, they usually just pour a shot into a small glass and mix with water and then add ice.

the wormwood content largely depends on the brand (i.e. Pernod from the U.K. has no wormwood), that is what causes the psychoactive "side-effects"...

many of the descriptions of imbibing here are spot on... just be sure to dilute it and you'll probably want sugar -- it's more of an entertainment thing with watching the cloudiness takeover the translucent bits.

definitely a nasty hangover... tenpenny nails to the head and all!
