Tinting and the Law
Just trying to get an idea of those MD members who have tints below 35% and if they get hassled by cops. I like the way 20% looks vs 35% but it seems like a waste of cash if I am going to get hassled/ticketed.

I have 20% all around and no stops yet (had the tint since april)
*knock on wood*
Funny thing is, I've had one cop say he liked the "look" of the tint and another was next to me at a redlight and pointed down (to roll down my window) and shouted, "nice car, the tint goes well with it"
lol

I haven't had much trouble w/ cops in Baltimore getting pulled over (knock on wood) so I'm hoping the tint won't change that.
Also, 2 more things.
1. How would a cop "know" if you had 20% vs 35% if you were to drive by him? What's to stop a cop from pulling you over even if you have the legal 35% but he THINKS its 20%? Is the difference THAT noticable to the naked eye?
2. I read something on here about "light cameras" at traffic lights. I've never heard about this before and I'm imagining a similar camera to a red light camera they have in Baltimore city. Is this true? Anyone heard of these things? I work downtown and if I am going to get tickets by a camera, it clearly wouldn't be worth getting 20% (since you can fool the naked eye, but not a light meter).

20% is noticably darker and a cop can tell the difference most of the time just by looking at it. To please our customers who want something slightly darker than legal, we offer a 30%, which is an inbetween and is our most popular choice and my personal favorite to keep a nice clean look.
Here is what we tell our customers who get dark tint....If you get pulled over turn on your interior dome lights. This instantly makes the tint appear MUCH lighter and the officer will have no problem seeing in the vehicle (which is their main concern most of the time).
Light cameras? I've never heard that one before. Speed cameras and red light cameras, yes, but light cameras? Doubt it.

I got 30% all around from Driven1's shop and love it. Pulled over more times than probably anyone on the forums, and never hassled about my tint. Always about other things, but never about the tint.

Thanks for the replies. Seems to be a mixture of responses (as I kind of expected). The Z isn't my daily driver and I plan on driving it on nice days (ie no rain or snow). Maybe I should take a shot w/ 20%??
