Im posting this here instead of the Motorsport section because I dont wanna get flamed, and because the Mid-A crew have always been helpful.. so go easy on me.

Me: 04 Touring AT Z driving in Manual mode
********: 05-06? Pontiac G6 (I can only assume the GT sedan)

Me driving behind ******** on I-83 heading towards Baltimore at about 6:30pm. So it's not quite rush hour but there are cars on the road. So Im driving behind him, both going about 80mph or so. I got bored and tried to pass him. ******** sees me trying to pass and speeds up. My pedal is floored. Im at 110mph and I'm still half a car length behind him. Traffic up ahead and we slow down. I proceed to try and pass him again.. same thing.

Let me just say that I'm not an aggressive person/driver. I like to go fast, but Im not an *** about it. And I don't normal like to start crap with other drivers on the road. But he got me fired up a bit because he wouldn't let me pass. Had I not tried passing him.. he would have gone 80mph all the way home. I guess the Z invites that kinda stuff..

But seriously WTF? a G6? Is there something wrong with my car? My Z is stock except for the K&N air filter :P

 

You can't drive automatic? Idk. Maybe he had a big block RWD conversion and had big cams and big headers and a 200 shot NOS.

 

I was driving in Manual mode for ***** and giggles. Am I correct to assume that you were sarcastic about his mods?? I dunno, if he's modded then its stealth. Even the 06 G6 GTP has only about 250hps. I have no idea WTF is going on. Either I dream this whole thing, he's modded, or something is wrong with my baby.

 

its not like we have the fastest car in the world just because its a Z. These kind of posts are annoying.

 

Uh... I was actually looking for some kind of explanation in regard to my post. I am happy for you that you came to terms with the mortality of your Z. But it doesn't help one bit. Thank you, come again.

 

I assume you're both automatic. If he hit it even 1 second before you, you'd never know, but he'd be ahead of you by quite a bit. Besides.. 250hp vs 287hp. 25hp difference isn't really that much in real life. Over a short race, its barely a 1 car difference.

 

you sure it was a g6? maybe it was a grand prix gxp?

 

What gear where you in? If you weren't in 4th when you tried to pass there's a lot of cars that would have kept pace. @ 80 mph and in fourth you'd have a good power band to pass him. Like the previous post said as soon as he saw you try to pass him he probably gunned it in anticipation. If you where in 5th (overdrive) then forget about it.

 

yeah but the G6 gt does a 0-60 in well over 9 sec so to get owned by one on the freeway of all places sounds like homehoys Z is a turd

Perhaps your ECU was in limp mode? Try resetting it.

The answer is simple. Lets say that you drive a 14 second 350Z. And the Pontiac is a 16 second car. At the drag strip 2 seconds is a lifetime. On the street, at 80 mph the 350Z will pass the Pontiac. It will just take a long distance.

 

Next time just drop down to 4th gear or 3rd and pass him or the next G6
