ive had both in the last year or so. i prefer dish over direct tv just because of the equipment. the dish boxes are better in my opinion. but having said that they are both pretty good. take a look at the channels on both they arent all the same. direcvt may have some dish doesnt and vice versa.

customer service on dish is def better than dtv though.

I love Direct TV. Awesome picture, even in horrible storms its hard for it to go out, only happened 2X ever at my house. The secret is the install guy, they only have to aim the sattelite to receive a minimum of 68% or something close signal. If they take extra time and get you higher even with storms, debris, etc you wont miss out. My vote goes to Direct TV.

+1
I love direct tv, they installed an HD reiever in the living room and did all three upstairs bedrooms for me at zero charge. they even checked my neighborhood associations regulations about the dish before they did the install. i have more channels than cable, it costs less than cable, the HD receiver you can pick the resolution to best match your tv 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i. by the way if you like sports there are more sports stations than you can shake a stick at literally, and free xm radio stations.

I have dish and all my equipment was free (although If I ever want to change to some other service they take the equipment back). So basically I didn't have to $500+ for the HD box and my satellite antenna. Dish also has the best HD package. Overall I get about 30 HD channels (Voom package included). I also agree on the installation. I think my reception is locked in usually above 90 (close to perfect). The only time I've lost reception is when a major (I mean major) thunderstorm passed through (2 or 3 times it's happened in the past 2+ years). The software (guide, search, etc) is more user friendly than Direct.

customer service is also excellent and very polite (found that out last night, local HD wasnt coming in. they resent the signal and credited me for my HD package on my next bill)

I originally got Directv just for the NFL Sunday ticket. I've had it now for 5 years and can't imagine having anything else. A-list customers get a card with a special customer service # on it. If I have a problem I know I can call and have no holding time. Its great.

My Dad has dish and I don't see anything wrong with it other than they don't have Sunday ticket. But other than that there probably about the same. What ever you decide on good call dropping cable. I'll never have it again.

DirecTV is good. The HR-20 HD DVR can be had for $299. its alittle buggy but the firmware keeps getting better.

In julyish they are delivering 2 more birds so be sure to get the 5LNB dish, these new satellites will carry over 130 new HD channels.

Picture is very clean, if only DirecTV kept TiVo interface I would give them a 10/10.

Comcast can burn in hell. I'm going to move simply because I can't get any other TV/Internet provider in my area.

How can a digital hd signal suck? Its 720p or 1080i or its not there. I dislike comcast as much as the next guy but I think there service is ok. When verizon gets 10meg dl speeds on there isp I would dump em but cable modem is just to good.

I told comcast to pound sand... they force you to carry digital silver service and one premium channel to get an HD tuner. HAHA HBO $10 dollars a month, if you get rid of it they surcharge you $8... and their on demand BS is WAAY over rated

I had a Direct TV 3 room setup with an HD Tuner installed. They also have an ish load of XM satellite channels for music. Couldn't be happier paying almost $50 a month less now.
