Default Got a ticket in Baltimore County

Baltimore county is so gay... I was driving on I-95S and about to exit to I-695(Exit 49). A Camero was tailgating me. At the same time there were lots of traffic coming to I-96 from I-695. So what did I do? I speed up and try to pass all the cars on my right so I could switch to the right lane and take the exit. I was a little over 70mph, then the Camero turned on the siren. He's a Baltimore County Police! He gave me a $160 ticket for going 75mph on a 55mph zone. The whole I-95 is 65mph zone. Why only Baltimore county is 55?! I've never had a ticket before. Only some warnings. So the big question is... should I go to court? If so, what should I say in the court?

personally, I would go to court, but before that I would go to his department and file a complanit (ticket) against him for tailgating. When you get to your own court date, should be first, you admit to speeding and that is was due to him tailgating you, than you state that the officer was issued a summons for X date for following too close. Make sure you get a transcrit of your court case to bring to the second court date (the officers) Never deny you were speeding, as you obviously crept up from 55 to 75 to try to get a safe distance between the two of you.

Dress well, use the best english you can muster, good hunting.

I got my first speeding ticket (clean record prior) in October. This was by the State Trooper, so I don't know if the Baltimore County works any different. So in Maryland you can do the following:

1. Plead Guilty (you pay the fine, get the point(s) on your record)
2. Plead Innocent, where you will have to go to court and plead your case. The cop who pulled you over can be there and if he is there you will most likely loose your case. You will have to pay your fine + court costs.
3. Please Guilty with an explaination. The cop will not be there, but you will have to explain to the judge why you were speeding etc. Judge may reduce your fine and points if you have a strong case/reason for your explaination.

I say you go for #2 or #3. #2 is risky since you risk having to go against the trooper. If he isn't there, you win. #3 you might have a decent shot since this is your first ticket and you explain to the judge that you were coming from I-95 which is a 65 zone. The sticky part is the fact that you were trying to pass the slower cars...but again, just point to your good driving record and hope your fine/points get reduced.

Baltimore county police and MD troopers drive the largest variety of police cars I have ever seen or heard of. here is a list of what I have seen:

-camaro's
-gto's
-ford explorer's
-ford expedition's
-chevy tahoe's
-jeep cherokee's
-chevy impala's
-crown victoria's
-ford econoline van's
-chevrolet cavalier's
-ford rustang V6 and V8 trims
-ford f150's
EDIT: also spotted by other members
-nissan altima
-dodge charger

is this the same in every state? almost anything is a police vehicle here what a pain in the ****.

ps in balto. co. court the officer is called up first, if he is not there you will know it before you go to the stand and the judge will ask how you plead. say not guilty!! and you will be free to go, no points, no fines, maybe $23 dollar court cost. if the cop is there when he asks how you plead you may plead guilty with an explination. the judge will ask to hear the explination. USE COMMON SENSE HERE!! BE HONEST!! the judge has heard everything before, trust me. i have heard quite a bit myself that is just unbelievable.

+1..ALSO they drive the new Chargers also..One place in particular to be careful is 95S towards 895 before the 895/95 split...when coming from white marsh or towson....they are there every single day and yes they are in the Charger/expedition/camaro in this area...be careful in this area

+1 on being careful on 95 between the 895 split and the 695 towson/essex exits. I sometimes see 2-3 cops sitting in that 5 minute stretch of road in a single pass. Something to keep in mind as that exit ramp from 695 inner loop to 95s begs to be taken with some speed =), but beware the cop that sits in the median right after the merge.

My buddy had an SC Cobra 03 with 478 to the wheels. On I495 last summer we were running about 75 in a 55 and a Blue GT 2003 Rolls up on his aszz. With a second red GT. But we are in the second to the left lane. Just as he was about to "layith the smackith upon thee," a Camery flew by us at like 90. He turned on his lights, located in the grill, and stopped the Toyota...Red GT was a cop too. Im sure it was some speeding sting ops or something.

That was in VA..

I got stopped in VA by a Chevy compact sedan in Jan of 06, 30 days after I got my G. I was like why is this guy on my azzz, so I punched it, got over, slowed down. He caught up and pulled me over, issued a ticket with 6 points attached!

DIACKS!

Default Assume all are potentially the LAW!

These days, I assume all other vehicles are potentially law enforcement. Like the earlier post, I have seen police in a vast variety of makes. One of the most unassuming was a white Dodge minivan on I70. You think a mom, you get an officer.

A coworker has a darker blue Dodge Charger R/T with ~30% tint. I almost made the mistake of 'cruising' with 'him' on the RT100 until I realized who 'he' was. My coworker's R/T looks identical to Howard County's Chargers except the tale-tale lights.

I have been paced, tailed, slowed down for by marked and unmarked vehicles. They like the LMS color that stands out. I always nod cordially and get a return in kind.

In MD, keep to less than 10 over and stay with the pace of traffic, use your signals, do not weave thru traffic, and make no sudden manuevers. These are good advices from my law enforcement friends and obvious common sense.

Best of luck with that approach, if that actually even came close to working all officers would be in non-stop traffic court defending themselves. The state makes the officer the state's witness in traffic cases, so his account is the factual one. I can tell you that from several personal experiences...years worth actually.

Ok let me correct a couple things here. First of all I'm pretty sure it was not baltimore co cop and was the ultimate ******* of law enforcement transportation authority. Secondly the 65 stops once I95 goes inside the beltway and is more to do with the city then the county. If im right about the type of cop then go to court and you should get no points.

Will he show up at the court? That's the big question. My plan is that if the cop doesn't show up at the court, I'll tell the judge that the cop was an really close behind me. And I was trying to switch to the right lane to take the exit. So I speed up to try to avoid any contact. (That's actually the truth). But if the cop shows, I'll just say I was following traffic pattern.

These dont work in court:
Keeping up with traffic
Had no idea I was going that fast
Didnt see the cop

Just tell them the truth, the guy was tailing you (file the report also), and you got over to take the exit, speeding up was the only thing to do, because the guy was all over you.
Good luck bro.
