You will get a ticket from the cool police for using them in public spaces besides the privacy of your own home.

guess ill call the state police just to make sure, obviously you cant drive or move on any highway however having clear stobes on in a private parking lot maybe okay.

Transportation § 22-218

(a) Every emergency vehicle, in addition to any other equipment and distinctive markings required by this subtitle, shall be equipped with a siren, exhaust whistle, or bell capable of giving an audible signal.

(b)
(1) Every emergency vehicle, in addition to any other equipment and distinctive markings required by the Maryland Vehicle Law, shall be equipped with signal lamps mounted as high as practicable, which shall be capable of displaying to the front and to the rear a flashing red light or lights. These lights shall have sufficient intensity to be visible at 500 feet in normal sunlight.

(2) Every school vehicle meeting the requirements established by the Administrator shall be equipped with alternately flashing warning lights in accordance with the standards adopted under § 22-228 of this subtitle.

(c) A person may not drive or move on any highway any vehicle or equipment that is equipped with or displays any light or signal device designed to emit an oscillating, rotating, blinking, or other type of emission of light, unless designated and authorized by the Administrator as indicated in paragraphs (1) through (9) of this subsection. The provisions of this section do not prohibit the display and use of any lighting device that may be permitted or required elsewhere in the Maryland Vehicle Law.

I have never had any problems with them and I've had them on a truck or two. Just don't go pulling people over or driving down the road with them. I used them as hazards when pulled off to the side of the road or something. If you work for a municipality you can get approved to have them as well.

You get caught using them unlawfully though, they WILL impound the vehicle and most likely tag you with impersonating. There is a kid who frequently comes by the shop and he has his Impala outfitted with them. We refused to do the install and despite our advice he did it anyway.

Well, to make a long story short. A cop was at the shop getting his cruiser tinted and noticed them and immediately took the tags of his car. They get pretty pissed at that stuff.

I have a Whelen (I believe its a 6 or 8) balast if anyone is looking for one.

after calling the state police this is what they told me

definition of highway = any public road

parking lot is not illeagal to have them on (clear)

the officer i spoke with was not all to friendly, you would think that since they are public servants they would be more polite to the public. It was like pulling teeth trying to get my questions answered. Even when she did answer me she was short on people skills. I gave her the section of code that I read 22-218 and told her I had specific questions that i was unsure of. I started to ask my question and she cut me off serveral times and repsonded in an agitated tone "no, no , no you cant use any..." I had to say excuse me, my question pertains to the use of strobes in a parking lot, 22-218 only states driving/moving on a "highway"

anyways , maybe im being grumpy but what a rude "biatch"

The sad thing is. If you had them on in a parking lot (even though its perfectly legal) they would probably harass you anyway.
