Default NEED HELP... Reckless driving ticket

I was going to luray caverns and got pulled over on rte 29 doing 79 in a 55. I was going down a hill also when he clocked me. This was in rappahanock county also. The officer said i could pre pay it, but cant take that insurance hit. I have a clean driving record, no moving violations in over 5 years.

Any advice from people with past or present experience in this situation. I need to figure out if i should go to court myself or get a lawyer.

Pre pay it, In a week that the points hit your DMV, go take the Driver's Improvement class + 5 points. You'll be straight to 0 Again.

oh, well then you know the procedure. Go to local bank, dish out 1200. Find a good reputable lawyer, lots of them out there. Go to court date, if it's your first time, they will most likely reduce it. Nothing to worry about.

Most cops all have lasers which are $1800 and it can be locked on a car far in distance. As far as 1 mile, pretty much by the time your V1 detects it, it will be too late.

Radar would have done nothing. I was on a country road and he had me coming down a hill over a mile away. And since its in a small rappahanock county, think it might be better if I went to court by myself and not a lawyer?

Are insurance companies twitchy like that? You said you've had no moving violations in the last 5 years, but you are concerned they will drop you over one citation? Am I stupid or somethings don't add up?

Is reckless driving that huge of a mark on your record? I never got so I know like to know. Not that I drive recklessly :P

Thumbs down

years ago I was dropped from my parents insurance for a combo of tickets, negligent driving, reckless driving, driver spinning wheels, driver creating excess noise all at the same time. Reckless and negligent driving are the two moving violations the state of MD is cracking down on ("agressive driver imaging"), repeat offenders loose thier license now time frames are up to the judge...

Isn't PBJ where you don't get any points on your drivers license; provided you make it one year with no other moving violations??? you may have to pay court cost only around $25-40. BRING A LAWYER!!

*What constitutes reckless driving:

MD Code, Transportation, § 21-901.1- What constitutes reckless driving (top)

(a) A person is guilty of reckless driving if he drives a motor vehicle:
(1) In wanton or willful disregard for the safety of persons or property; or
(2) In a manner that indicates a wanton or willful disregard for the safety of persons or property.
(b) A person is guilty of negligent driving if he drives a motor vehicle in a careless or imprudent manner that endangers any property or the life or person of any individual.

*Agressive driver imaging information: don't think the police sit by the construction workers at night to keep them safe, they are watching and taping you! totaly unconstitutional...

this is being developed literally across the street from my work at Aberdeen Proving Grounds (30 seconds from Ripken stadium for you autoX guys)

The weird thing about my case is that the officer signed and checked the box that allows me to pre-pay it and not have to come to court??? He also clocked me driving the opposite way 4 lanes across.

In the state of Virginia they really don't do the PBJ thing like they do it in MD. Back in 2000 I got my first speeding ticket ever, 60 in a 45 at 2 in the morning. I thought I'd get a PBJ since my driving record was spotless. The judge could care less, he still made me pay the fine and I got points on my license. Mind you, this was in Fairfax County aka butt rape county of the Mid-A.
