No contest: Virginia. This state has many clever methods of extracting the most money from your bank account. Northern Virginia is different than the southern 3/4 though; they are like two different states. That being stated, NOVA is immensely more expensive than the south.

The commute? Between the hours of 8AM and 8PM, VA has the largest parking lots in the nation.

I hate this state.

Some good points. What I hate about VA is personal property tax. If I paid for a car - and have already paid sales tax, why do I have to continue to pay to own it each year with the state? This is the biggest BS tax of them all. I have 3 cars, a boat and a motorcycle, all of which are paid for except the Z. I have to pay taxes each year to own them in VA. Thats ridiculous.

Personal property tax is friggin ridiculous, I couldn't agree more. Is it just Fairfax County that imposes this tax?

I am just stationed here and I hate this place. Couldn't imagine actually living here due to all the weird laws. Also **** the new traffic ticket fees you guys have to pay.

No this is a state mandated tax, but the counties where you live collect it and benefit from it. Try moving from one city/county to another and getting tax bills from both. Or selling a vehicle and continuing to get tax bills for something you sold long ago. It bites *****.

Montgomery County in MD can cost some serious money. But NoVA in general is more expensive.

http://money.cnn.com/pf/features/lis...005/index.html

According to this table, in 2005, MD residents pay more taxes overall than VA residents.

http://ded.mo.gov/researchandplannin...ving/index.stm

According to this table, MD has a higher cost of living standard than VA.

Once again, popular perception is refuted by the reality of facts. It is an undisputed fact that living in VA is cheaper than living in MD.

i have to disagree with these because it's taking into account for statewide versus a region of the state.

northern VA and the rest of the state is in 2 different categories...it's like living in another country.

again, i'm not comparing statewide VA v. MD..i'm only taking a region of both states.

Yes but if you are comparing areas and not the state, Boston is one of the most expensive cities to live in through out the entire united states. It has a higher cost of living than San Francisco which has always been very expensive to live in.

Why are we voting on this? If someone did the research, we could simply find out factually.
