Default VA Bolt Shop

I was installing my motordyne spacer yesterday and used a new craftsman torque wrench for the first time and ended up breaking the bolt. It was to hold the lower plenum over the gasket.

Does anyone know a shop in the NOVA area that might have the bolt in stock? I already ordered one from Nissan, but I really can't wait. I need to put everything back by today and I don't want to take the chance in driving it with a missing bolt (compression) and everything.

Everything went smooth until I began to put things back using the torque wrench; it's not really a hard install at all. After loosening and tightening bolts time and time again, you'd have to know that one of it might break or strip. I was mad a sh*t when it broke, but luckily I didn't have to drill it out. It did cross my mind for a couple seconds to give up on messing around with my cars, but that went away after knowing that I'm not the only one who came across this problem. If anything, this experience has made me a more cautious novice when messing around with cars.

How much did AAM charge you? Is the spacer the only thing they had to install? I ordered the iso thermal spacer which came with the gasket and sometime of coolant controller.

Lowes, or any hardware store for that matter, should have the bolts you need. Just take one in with you to make certain you get the correct size and threads.

I just went to lowes, and they don't have the exact bolt that I need, but very close. The length and thread length is the same, I'm not sure to use a bolt that is not the exact same.

What is different about it? I assume that you are just bolting the plenum cover back on so, the bolt from Lowes should be just fine until the bolt you ordered comes in. Threre is nothing special AFAIK about the OEM bolts.

I broke one using a Craftsmen inch lbs wrench also, and I picked up a new bolt from Home Depot, it fit fine and came in black!

how hard did u twist to break that bolt? You don't really need to have a torque wrench for a plenum spacer install, just wrist tighten and it should be good to go. =)

I broke one of the bolts that hold down the intake manifold collector cover to the lower plenum, there is six identical bolts, copper color. Lowes had similar bolts but the end of it which is less than half an inch is not threaded.

The intake manifold collector cover is copper, I assume from the color and the bolt too. I’m not sure using a different bolt will be okay for this particular part of the engine.

I bought it with the intention of returning it after I use it. Now that I got burnt from it, I'm not sure if I'm going to use it again. Knowing that everything is equally torqued makes me sleep better at night.

Ive found that my local Ace hardware has THE BEST selection, antyhing Ive ever needed from super small allen head screw for my paintball marker to suspension bolts. Go there, good luck at Home Depot or Lowe's they are very unorganized. Good luck.
