There is a matt clear coat out there as well. If you remember the MTX Esclade at OC this year it was a flat gray color. I think its made my Alsa Corp (soft feel clear)?
The flat look can be done on any color. Its just an extra chemical added to the clearcoat that kills the gloss.Adding different amounts can give different levels of gloss.
I saw a matte black Z cruisin at night down in Long Beach, It was one of the sickest Z's i've ever seen. I'm thinkin of Painting my silverstone matte black.
[QUOTE=r0csfinest]good point... maybe the material is like a clear bra but diff color and prevents rock chips
I've got clear bra and it doesn't prevent chips in the clear bra.
...absolutely better than chips in the paint however, but the chipped clear bra looks like crap.
I guess it would depend on what body shop you took it to, if they painted the door jambs and such. Plus if you want them to prep it and do a real paint job or some bs job where they just paint over what you got. There are a lot of things to take into consideration.
Just talked to a body shop guy up the street from me. He said the pait they use for that matt black is called hot rod black, it is a one stage paint. He said at most he would put down 2 coats of it. There is no clear or any finish that goes on after you paint it. He also recomends that you keep it in a garage, and wash it in the shade cause if it get a water spot they are hard to get rid of. Now for the price, $4000-$5000 depending on how much of the car you want painted.
I'm sure there are other manufactures of paint that have their own Matt Black finish that would need to be treated in certain ways.
Well, count me out. No garage or covered parking....yet.
