Default ThanksGiving Cup Cakes + Suspension Tuning and a Rain Battle in the DD

Cupcakes:
It was the day after Thanksgiving. After I thanked the car gods for giving me sway bars on steroids, pimp chit time attack coilovers, beefed up endlinks and misc chassis stiffening goodies... I decided to take my 3rd gf out (the daily driver) on a joy ride. I had stopped by the supermarket earlier to grab some cupcakes for my nieces (cuz I'm such a freakin totally awesome uncle.) On the way there, there are misc. random curvy roads, so I figured, "why not?"

Here's the outcome:

Oppsy, did I do that? Well, at least they still taste good =)

Rain Battle:
So just last night, it started pouring down cats and dogs... you know what that means.. time to go driving! At one point in time, there was so much rain pouring down that I couldn't even see 10ft ahead of me with my wipers set on MAX... oh wells, makes it even more fun! I get out of my neighborhood and am on the backroads when I spot a guy driving unusually faster than what normal people would drive under these conditions. "HMmMm... must be a ricer.." so you know what that means.. gotta catch up and play. This is called: Rice Hunting. Turns out it was a IS300, perfect! These cars handle great, RWD, and pack a hell of a lot more power than I currently have. 100+ hp more... but that just makes it even more exciting. Next question is: lets see how well he drives in the rain?

No racing was instigated whatsoever, but the funny part is... right when I'm behind him at the light, he guns it and makes a super sharp lefty onto the main road... I mean.. who does that?! My conclusion: he must have a rice detector as well and tried to get away from me.. "WoOHoO!" I said to myself, I like willing victims.

I can see the guy staring over every now and then (cuz we didn't drive past the speed limit) on the straight roads. He had a nice lil exhaust and some bling rims from what I can see. There was an S-Curve coming up so I let him get ahead to see what line he'd take to tackle his corners. Entry speed was pretty decent, but the driver seemed a little hesitant and unsure of himself, so I went ahead and tried to overtake him on turn 2. I went on the outside lane (yes I know... passing on the outside, how dumb!) with the clutch out and let my suspension do the work @ 50mph on a 65 degree turn (yes... dumb move again) Good thing the turn wasn't as sharp so I could correct it. The guy saw what I was trying to do so he took the turn a lil faster to prevent me from getting ahead. We were 90% to the apex of the turn, both our cars were losing grip and both cars started to slide to the right. Right when we hit the apex was when I told myself "wtf r u doing.. you have AWD... why try to match RWD driving style?" (Yeah, still thought I was in the Z for some odd reason, LOL) At the apex of turn 2, I punched it and all 4 wheels locked grip and catapulted me ahead of him. Turn # 3 was coming up: sharp 75 degree while the car was traveling @ about 60mph.

The funny thing about AWD is, you have to constantly be on the gas and keep the RPMs high to catch traction... and that's exactly what I did for turn #3. No loss of traction whatsoever. Since I was near my limit on these wet roads, the car drifted a few inches from smacking the curb... but all in the name of fun of course =)

The guy was way behind at this point since he had to take the last turn much slower. I went on cruise @ 35mph as he did a ricer flyby on me... yes, in the straights =)

In other news: (yes, more rants, Mid-A is lacking the life it used to have)
My cousin was bragging about how his friend has this super insane Twin Turbo Supra that can supposedly beat the Z (well no duh!) And was bragging all about it, "I bet he can beat you" Wow, what an accomplishment when you have 300-400 more whp. So I told em "go ahead and tell em to come out to the backroads over there, I won't even drive the Z, I'll take out my 100whp beater and still kick his butt" The kid's like 20 and thinks the more HP the car has, the better it is... must be watching too much Fast and Furious.

Next up: Snow/Ice/Sleet/Hail Test! + more chassis stiffening braces and minor susp tweaks... Can't waaaait!

P.S. what have you guys been doing lately, I hardly see any cool activity around here.. bleeeh Everyone is either broke, sold their cars, or married!

I'm still alive and well waiting on future events from the mid-A. Anh, still have to get a ride in the DD sometime and see how it handles in person.

I knooow man, ppl r all hibernating! Usually when the weather is total crap: that's when I take the Z out. What better way to learn your car than when the conditions are hazardous? Slipping and sliding everywhere = FUN! =D So when it really happens, you'll know what to do.

Goofball - I do agree though, last time I took out some cocky kid on the backroads, he ended up cracking his rims from hopping the curb @ 100mph and lost $100 to a guy I was training. Thought his car could take a turn like that w/ no susp mods whatsoever *slaps forehead*

In fact, another 1 of my buddies (MR2 Turbo) ended up in a ditch on this one night we went out (but his car was miraculously fine)

Oh yeah, that reminds me, I gotta tell you about another one of my cocky friends who was trying to impress this chick. We just got out of a company dinner and we took his car back home to drop me off. So of course he goes, "Hey lets go on those twisties!" His date was in the backseat and I was in the passenger seat. I said "sure y not," no one had been drinking and everything is cool. We went on my favorite road full of 90 degree turns. The first few turns he did GREAT! Took the correct lines and hit the apex's + accelerated out of each corner correctly... got a lil cocky and tried to take the next turn (the sharpest one of them all) at 50mph (when you should've been going 25-30) Next thing ya know... car started drifting "slideways," knocked out the yellow hazard sign indicating "Sharp CORNER!" and we dropped off a 6ft cliff and landed sideways, 8k worth of damages. Needless to say, the girl didn't say a WORD... (he didn't get any either that night just in case you were wondering)

slim - once you drive it, u'll never look at ur civic the same again The RS has more room for improvements though, thinking about putting a full roll cage in here to stiffen things up... yeah I know.. "cage in a DD? WTF r u nuts?" Yes I am! In fact, I'm thinking of driving to work everyday w/ a helmet on, lets see what ppl will do.

-Zaine, that's what we last LAST season! Look what happened! =P I guess the economy in all our wallets are sucking. We need another Starbucks run or a beater meet.

SirSpeedy - Hell yeah man, RSX-Type S FTW! Minus the fact that they're getting stolen left n right these days. Honda boys always find a way to steal each other's crap I swear.

Goof - I actually have 4 cupcakes left... cuz no one wants to eat them since they're a huge mess LOL

Keith - Yes I am! But all of Mid-A already knew that, since when was I ever normal? On another note, you should try it too! Highly recommended!

Ricky - On another note, we need to get the peeps back together for another run. I miss the good ole days. Except this round, I think i'll be sportin' the beater.

Cass - Thinking of making a vid of some battles through the twisties w/ my hardcore twisty road friends and their cars + analyzation of driving techniques + footwork and shift techniques. Most of us drive to just drive, but I'd like to show ppls how fun it could be if we simply utilized things like heel toe in our everyday commute =D

wow man! i really want to learn from you. I am actually thinking about picking up a 2002 2.5 RS for under 10 grand this winter. My jeep is going and AWD is something i would like to have in the snow.
i already know my first mod would be Flat Black paint job, just how my jeep is now.

Ain't nothing wrong with F&F, don't knock your roots.

The economy is getting a stimulus plan, economic bail it. Ricers are getting one too it's called Fast and Furious 4!
