From WUSA9:
POMFRET, Md. (WUSA) - A Charles County high school student was stabbed during school on Monday. Police say the 17-year-old girl was stabbed in the back by a 16-year-old boy, and another student who attempted to intervene and come to the girl's aid was also injured.
It happened shortly before noon in a hallway near the cafeteria, following one of the lunch periods at Maurice J. McDonough High School in Pomfret. Katie O'Malley-Simpson, spokesperson for Charles county schools, tells 9NEWS NOW that the girl's injury was serious, but not life-threatening.
School officials say a school resource officer, and another sheriffs deputy who happened to be at the school, responded quickly to the incident. The victim was flown by Maryland State Police helicopter to an area hospital. The suspect was taken by ambulance to Civista Medical Center in LaPlata, Md. The student who intervened was treated by a school nurse for a minor injury.
O'Malley-Simpson said the female victim is a senior at the school, and the suspect in the stabbing is a sophomore. School officials and police say the motive in the stabbing is unknown. Charles County Sheriffs recovered a steakknife at the scene.
Charges against the suspect are pending a medical evaluation. In addition to any criminal charges, the suspect in the incident will likely face school disciplinary actions, ranging up to expulsion, O'Malley-Simpson said.

Fights happened all the time at this school when I went there, but never to this extent. I think it's all the trash filtering down from PG and DC. There's always bad areas but Charles County is just getting ridiculous. LaPlata isn't too bad but it's only a matter of time...Oh wait someone got stabbed at the Greene Turtle in LaPlata not too long ago...
