You were guilty by admission, so of course he was going to pull you out and soberize you. Drinking and driving is not the smartest thing in the world, but unless you are obviously blasted drunk, NEVER admit to having had any drinks, even the seemingly innocent "I just had a beer or two" line.

Same goes for getting pulled over for speeding. When they ask the usual "Do you know why I pulled you over?" and "how fast were you going?", don't self implicate... instead, reply "I am not sure why you pulled me over" and "I am not certain how fast I was going".. yeah, you sound a little dumb, but you are not admitting to anything, and the only way they can get you for speeding is if they have proof. Again, it puts the onus on them to convict you.

That may be the truth, but NEVER tell the cops that, man! Let them determine on their own that you are guilty. If you hadn't said you had 1 beer, you would have avoided the confrontation all together.

I had a few friends that are/were cops and when I asked how to get out of tickets they said to be polite and don't give some BS answer like, "I am late for work" to get out of speeding. He said to come up with something funny or amusing at least, so now I had my wife forward me a random **** pic of a chick sprawled out on a bed with "Hurry home" in the text area on the pic. When I get asked why I was speeding I'll just show him the pic and hope for the best, but with my luck lately I'll get pulled over by a woman instead.
OP, definately get an atty for court, driving under suspension is no joke.

Sure, but why admit to it? If the cop didn't radar you and he didn't know your speed, and then you tell him "I was going 84, sir", you just admitted your guilt and your chances of getting a reckless have increased tremendously.

You'll be fine if it's your first...get a lawyer and if you want a good one send me a PM... a couple of cases for example...
4th driving on suspended (with a prior driving without a license as well) was reduced to no operators license, $250 fine, one year probation and 180 days suspended jail time.
91 in a 55 dropped, .23 dropped to a .20, 4th DUI dropped to a 2nd in 5 years, 5 days in jail, 25 days work release, DA said it should have been 4 months. You'll probably end up losing a grand to $1200 including lawyer, a 30 day suspended license/restricted, and probably a year of probation b/c they'll probably put a fine over your head.
