Default Advice on obtaining 009 tranny

For those of you that have been in the game for awhile I need some help. Im going to need a new transmission at some point soon. Of course it started to go right after the warranty was up etc, so im going to be paying for it out of pocket. I have some questions though:

1) should I buy new or used?
2) Where can I find good transmission deals
3) If I buy used what should I be careful of (stamped bell housing, mileage?, things of that nature)
4) How much should a used be (again if criteria from #3 are met)
5) Ive always thought extended warranties were a scam....can these provide any help?

As always thanks guys.

G35 transmission, came out of an 06 g35 with only a couple thous. miles (less than 5k). This is the better trans with the updated internals compared to the earlier models, will fit 03-07 g35 and 350Z. If you race this is your chance to have a backup. Has shifter extension, does not include shifter handle or clutch fork. Email for pics or questions:
