But i just hate the labor rate for body shop. Also theyre time scale.
For instance i have been quoted for my front bumper to be repainted. They said it took 1.5 hrs for just paint. Installation was 1hr. Overall it was extremely over priced. I cant stand that chit. Knowing it really doesnt take that long.

I understand its a business that they are trying to run. But if they were a little bit more reasonable with the prices and theyre working habits they could make a kliibg with the right crowd.

I am really thinking about taking up a side job as a painter and body man. it has always called my attention for some reason. I have the space at home to do it. I have buddys that want to use my garage for side work perfect opportunity to learn from them.
Remember what we talked about Bryan?

I called warren, and left him a message. He never called me back though.

ZS14- The labor thing is the same as with me at my job as a mechanic. We may charge 12 hours to do a transsmission even though it only takes 3-4 hours. That's how we make ou money. Think about it this way, your not only paying for our actual labor, you're paying for our knowledge. Our time spent learning the things everyone else does'nt know how to do.

i understand it.

BUT it seems like a rip off...

for instance diagnosis. If they are so experienced they should be able to find the problem with no problem. But if they are gonna goof around for a couple of hours and then stick you the bill for X many hours although they fixed it in 1hr.

better said what i am trying to say is flat rate charge would be better. the harder and faster you get it done one single charge and keep the ball moving.
there would be alot more income for them. The turn around time would be even better. in and out etc.

whats normal hourly body work like 120/hr i think?

Well you have it broken down into what you do to the vehicle. Which will seem to come out alot more expensive. But other than that you double amount of hours although a 1/4 of it was actually spent on the car.

well, ZS14, I know that in my place of work, we have no time to goof around for any amount of time. Were doing atleast 100-120 cars a day. Agood example is, our services ae 1.6 in labor. Now it would take me 30 minutes or less to do it. I don't b.s. until the hour and 36 minutes is up, I move on to the next car. That's the only way to make money. Now I may come across a job that pays 4 hours, and it takes me longer, because something goes wrong during the process, in that case we lose money, but we don't charge the customer more. If we took the exact time it pays us, we would'nt make enough money. There fore, no more technicians.

Yes Chen, we do work on a "team" basis. Reson for that is we usually lose money on warranty work. Another words, say I get stuck pulling a dash and insulating it for a rattle concern, and warranty only pays 2.5 hours, (it takes alot longer than that) and the guy next to me gets a 9 hour svc. (which includes a timing belt) and he gets done in 2 hours, we both make the same amount of money at the end of the day. Theirs some days I get stuck all day with garbage work, and some other guys will get nothing but good easy work, I would generally be pissed cause I'm not makin any money but he is
