Thanks everyone I will definitely be fighting it. To 3m wol8 the cop said it was unapproved and that's it. I think he forgot that he pulled over a DC resident...lol. He was down behind my car a couple of times then going to his radio on the motorcycle. I think he was looking for the manufacturer of the exhaust.

that why if you say TRD, NISMO, SRT, ect....cops cant touch you...

I have full exhaust and stock mufflers....and I have too little back pressure...

after market exhaust are pain, dont provide more HP than the set up I am running.

stock headers
stock cats
cat back exhaust

has less HP gains than

strup headers
test pipes
stillen y pipe
OEM midpipe
muffler

granted I paid more, but I got more HP out of it and no issues with the PO PO

you live and learn

Also when you buy aftermarket exhaust they state that they are for OFF ROAD use only. 99% of them say that somewhere...or not California emissions tested, or whatever.

99% of the exhaust are illegal because of emissions reason, noise, and clearane to the ground (most of us lower our cars) which is also illegal to modify the OEM suspension.

why

its has not been government tested or approved....

hence why the stillen SC and Vortech SCs (or NISMO exhaust) cost a bit more than others....they are both 50 state legal...that is if you run the out of the box kit on a stock car with NO other modifications.

hope that helps.
thanks man.. you always pull through for me lol.. so you think i can get away with a big fat single can sticking out the rear? lol

Sure, your car is tagged in Maryland, but hey, it makes about as much sense as him getting a ticket in VA for his exhaust.

It IS illegal in Maryland to change any parts on your car that do not meet OEM specs. I believe it's illegal in DC as well. There's a lot of laws that thankfully don't get enforced. However, if you get a ******** that wants to put you in your place..... those tickets can come out. but. giving a ticket out in VA for a MD car..... total bs.

First... Welcome to VA~!

Cops right, "if" it is illegal in VA, they can give you the ticket.
just like the radars. legal in MD, but illegal in VA. even tho you have Non-VA or DC tags, u can NOT use them in VA because it's illegal in VA.
same crap.

but! here is the thing..
I have gotten about 6~7 pulled over for exhaust.
first 3 times i prepaid for it.
after that, i got really pissed... I research about the law, and found out.. Exhuast ticket was totally BS...

year ago when I research on VA laws, there was 3 possible tickets that cops give out to people.

1. 46.2-1047 Muffler Cutout, Etc.
2. 46.2.1049 Exhaust System in good working order
3. (I forgot the code) This is for Illegal exhaust "seller"
4. looks like this is new thing since i research.. 15.2-919 Regulation of motorcycle, moped, or motorized skateboard or scooter noise.

which means..
1. you don't have cutout or gutter exhaust. (BS)
2. you can pass emission and inspection. (BS)
3. you don't sell exhaust... (BS)
4. here is the tricky one.. VA does not have any noise limit (95~6db something around there like CA.)
which means they can't really give you ticket for this. (BS).

conclusion: exhaust ticket = BS.

if you want to fight for it, yes, it is possible to win. ( I went to court before and I've Won). you batter have very good documents that can support you tho. but.. is it worth time? it's only $30 or something since you got your speeding already... and it's not a moving violation for the exhaust.

now days, I carry few documents in my car. I have HKS exhaust. Don't ask me why, I usually get pull over every 3 month or so. I have a document shows that my exhaust is making 95dbs noise, and it's fully functional for 350zs, California emissions tested something like that. and I also carry CA laws and VA laws. just because HKS document is came from CA. CA laws and VA laws are very similar.
after showing this documents to cops, so far, 3 cops gave me warning and told me "you have very good documents. make sure you carry this with you all the time..."

sorry about F up English...

Can you post a link, or a scan, of these documents?

which law code did you get on ur ticket?

I have HKS doc in my car. i called HKS to fax me the doc. if you have other exhaust you might want to try call and ask. They might have em.

just in case if you want to fight for it.
most of time, if you tell judge that you have change back to stock exhaust because you didn't know it was illegal, they usually dismiss the ticket.

Judge asked me that first, see if I have changed back to stock one.. (other 2 people got dismissed because they said yes) but I told him NO. and fought for it and won!

well they are illegal to use, not to have. i mean, a radar detector is just something you can just turn off. i would think it wouldn't fall into the same category since you can't exactly pull over before you enter a different state and change your exhaust.

Man, I used to get pulled in my Honda and get: NO front license plate, Altered Suspension, improper exhaust & Tint every single time. I drove the Nissan up and never had a problem, its far louder & faster! Maybe the cops see Honda's as easy bait.
